Lucas is consistent

Indianapolis - The double-driving of daring POWERade Top Fuel ace and Lucas Oil Series Alcohol dragster pilot, Morgan Lucas continues his march up the progression hierarchy by improving on his consistency every lap as he runs in the 52nd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park. After completion of the second day of qualifying for NHRA’s biggest event, Lucas has amassed three consecutive 4.50 runs (4.564, 4.565, and 4.543) and stands eighth in the lineup with two more qualifying sessions remaining on Sunday.

“The car is running amazingly strong,” smiled Lucas. “We found a big problem with the car in Memphis and we tested last week here and it showed promise. It’s a good transition from the past and our crew chiefs said it best – ‘Every time we get 100 feet closer to the finish line, we only have 200 left’, so we hope to get it to the finish line running tough.”

After two rain delays and a shifting of the race schedule for the Lucas Oil Alcohol division, Morgan has only two-recorded runs with 5.348 seconds, 263.62 mph being his best of the long weekend, placing him currently in the No. 10 position. In this morning’s session, he lost traction early and coasted to the finish line.

“We just overpowered the track today and smoked the tires,” stated Lucas. “We went out there and tried to set low E.T. of the world with it and it didn’t work. We’ll calm the car down tomorrow and try to get in the top half of the field. Rob Wedland and Tom Conway are setting up our car for this race. Rob is our new team manager/crew chief and Tom is our tuning consultant. We have one more qualifying session before our first round of eliminations and we’ll be ready to go.”
