Line Steps Up in the Heat, Stays Second In Indy (1 Viewer)

After opening with a single session on Friday evening, qualifying for this year’s Mac Tools U.S. NHRA Nationals got underway in earnest on Saturday with two additional sessions at Lucas Oil Raceway in Clermont, Ind. with teams scrambling to find the proper set-up to adapt to the elevated temperatures and slick race track. Coming into today in the second position (behind his teammate) Summit Racing Pro Stock standout Jason Line looked to maximize every points-earning opportunity, accomplishing his goal with the second-quickest time in each session, highlighted by his 6.640-second, 208.17 mph pass in the third session, garnering an additional four bonus points (for a total of six to this point) and remaining second with two attempts left on Sunday.

Even so, with a dramatic change expected in the weather overnight, Line acknowledged his position was far from secure, although confident his KB Racing crew would be ready for whatever was thrown at them on Sunday.

“We’re continuing to make progress with my Summit Racing Pontiac,” said Line. “Naturally, we’re a little off compared to Greg’s (current No. 1 qualifier and teammate Anderson) car, but it’s making decent runs, and responding to the changes we’re making to it. With as challenging as the conditions have been here so far, I’m pretty pleased,

“Of course, we have two more runs tomorrow in which to make it better, and with a potential change in the weather, there may be some major changes required to the tune-up, but it’s nothing we can’t handle. Tomorrow, we’ll put ourselves in the best possible position for race day, and Monday, we’ll go after the Wally.”
