Line’s Learning Experience Places Him Eighth Midway through Vegas Qualifying (1 Viewer)

Event: *12th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals

Location: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, Nevada

Day/Date: Friday, April 1, 2011

Mother Nature played an April Fools’ Day joke on the racers during the first day of qualifying for the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals, with temperatures soaring into the 90-degree range making it seem more like summer, conditions that sent crew chiefs scrambling to find the right combination to tame the hot and slick track at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.* Coming in as the points leader in the highly competitive Pro Stock division, Jason Line and his Summit Racing team looked to continue their string of impressive performances, but found themselves struggling to maximize their performance.*

After opening with a solid 6.750-second time, Line posted the fourth-quickest time of the second session at 6.749 seconds with a top speed of 204.88 mph, good enough for eighth midway through the qualifying procedure.* Although certainly not pleased with his standing, he acknowledged that the team was learning from their experience, gathering information they hoped to put to good use over the remaining two days of competition.

“We struggled pretty hard today, but it was still a productive day,” said Line.* “Although it was definitely not the kind of start we wanted to get off to, you can’t be perfect on every run. *Besides, we traditionally get better as we go along, so it’s all good.* The main thing is that we learn something from what we did today, and I’m confident we will. Our Summit Racing Pontiac will be better tomorrow, and even better the day after that.* You can’t win the race until Sunday, and by then we should be in good shape.”
