Did anyone else think it was wrong when she threw her crew under the bus by saying the reason they have not been performing better was due to her crew making to many mistakes.

Kirby, your posts definitely indicate a clear dislike for Leah. I heard her comment, but did not view it as anything other than a rationale description of their coming up the learning curve. My driver could definitely say that of my dealing with our new car this year.

Keep in mind she said it after their performance had turned the corner ... the bus was no longer there, she was not even trying to throw them under it.

It's easier when you either like a driver/team, or just don't care/comment. My recollection of your history of posts is that you fall in the "haters are gonna hate" category. That is a tough way to live life, good luck to you.

We have been around Leah quite a bit since she started running fuel. She wouldn't do anything to under mine her crew she just isn't like that, I think she may have been refering to little things she feels she has improved on, as well as the rest of the team.

Leah is a great kid, and a fantastic driver, need I say more.

Well said, Jeff.

I could never see a driver making that statement unless the were on the way out the door.

Kirby,

I remember her saying THEY (meaning the whole team) were making small mistakes and they slowed down in Topeka and it took the mistakes away or something like that. But I never once thought she was pointing fingers at anyone.

I guess it's all in how sensitive you are. I, like most, took her comments as a whole team, it's just she was placing the emphasis on the team, because what you left out was how she ended the comment saying these issues have all been addressed, and "definitely have something for Antron tomorrow" which meant the crew has made corrections, and then stepped UP on top of that. They had enough "something" for a couple of rounds on Sunday. Good showing I say.

As a side note, I'm sure we've all seen her for quite some time, driving different types of cars, so she's not new to us, but I remember thinking to myself during that post qual interview "If the NASCAR crowd gets a hold of this they should go nuts"

Personally, I didn't hear her say anything untowardly with respect to her team. Really, she didn't say anything most knowledgeable fans weren't already aware of, whether consciously or unconsciously. She stated that a young team that doesn't have a lot of experience was struggling with the details - which is where the Devil lies, or so I'm told. Was that a shocking revelation? Not to me. Getting the details right is usually the difference between a full pull and tire smoke... or worse.

Which leads me to my second point.

Would anyone have been surprised if ESPN had interiewed her following her semi-final explosion and she stated something to the effect, "Yeah that's a shame, we really had a consistent hotrod today, but our team just isn't experienced enough yet to handle a 60 minute turnaround?" Would you have been surprised by a comment like that? I wouldn't have been. Let me be clear here - I AM NOT CRITICIZING the Dote team here, I'm merely making an observation in an attempt to make a point.

And the point is - a little honesty is a nice thing, and it's not necessarily negative. That team showed signs of quality performance and should be damn proud of their weekend... but there isn't now, nor will there ever be a replacement for experience. The more they work together, under pressure, the better they'll be.

Strive for perfection, accept excellence...

This is how I took it as well. The tone was WE as a team....

Perfect is the enemy of the very good.

I also took it to mean the team as a collective unit were making strides and were putting mistakes behind them. I didn't think she was throwing anyone under the bus.

You wanna hear somebody throw their team under the bus ... listen to the in car radio of Kurt Busch over the years in Cup. It is a miracle he can still walk and talk. I woulda pushed him out of Roush's and Penske's plane many times ...

I've surfed YouTube and listened to the in car radio clip....I don't get offended easily, but he had me up on the chip with what he was saying. I'm just glad he had a crew that could restrain themselves.

The only comment I caught, and I could be wrong, was her explanation for hitting the cone at the end of the track because she thought she locked her eyes on it and drove towards it. Which, IMO, was something that can easily happen to any rookie NHRA TF or NFC driver motoring down the track that quick.

Kind of reminded me of my old Motocross days......"Do not look at something you do not want to hit."

Hey....she's in the seat. One hell of an accomplishment in this day and age.

Yep its going where you're eyes are looking, funny how that works. anyone who has driven a race car on a track can tell you that.

In you're daily driver going 35 mph on the street or 65 mph on a hwy you have reference points like other cars, road signs and signal lights to tell you when to stop, go turn, etc, and time to react because you are going pretty slow.

Racing differs as you often have few reference points and are going fast enough to have difficulty reacting to what the car is doing, not that you don't react, it just takes skill and practice.

Leah has been driving race cars for a very long time,
I would bet anyone who is criticizing her driving skills has never driven a car over the posted speed limit and most likey not on a race track.
