Al-Balooshi drops a 5.66 on the crowded PM field at Gainesville, .06 ahead of Gonzalez who himself is .06 ahead of everyone else. Not a fluke; he ran 5.61 at the Doorslammer Nationals last weekend. Somebody's gonna take notice.

Yep. And only 4 nitrous cars there and ZERO turbo cars trying to qualify. Probably a combination that should never been allowed.

Unless NHRA allows nitrous to spool the turbo cars at the starting line, The turbo cars are only good on the back-end of the run.

Top Fuelers back in the 1950’s had multiple carb cars using gas racing heads up against those new blower cars on nitro. It didn’t take long to see Top Fuel carb setups on the “Racingjunk” of the day.
As much as I enjoy watching turbo cars top end charge against a nitrous car, the differences in speed at different parts of the track could make for some wild and potentially dangerous crashes.
At some point teams will choose one setup over another and make the slower one obsolete. Pro Chargers may be doing that to turbo Pro Mods now just like blowers did to multiple carbs back in the 50’s.
Do you think NHRA should always add/subtract weight or other crutch to keep the slower combo around?

Phil, Pro Mod is apples & oranges. There is always one set up that dominates and then changes are made. Looks like the Pro Charger is the hot set up now. Jeffery Barker is quickest nitrous car at 5.732, #8 spot. Rickie Smith is #10 at 5.746. Both cars are .10 behind #1 Q, Justin Bond, 5.638. See what happens with this.

That's true, but multiple combos is one of the public appeals of PM. Without policing to make everything competitive, you'll end up with basically a faster version of the current Pro Stock or a slower version of the funny cars. I think most would agree that isn't a good thing due to their monotony. Nitrous has already been mostly phased out and so will any other combo that isn't as competitive until it's a spec class in practice UNLESS steps are actively taken to ensure a competitive balance. This has been an issue for PM for since the beginning and now with more combos in the mix, it's an even bigger headache.
