LE Tonglet rebounded from a slow start with the eighth-quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle elapsed time Saturday as qualifying concluded for Sunday’s AAA Texas Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex.
The reigning Full Throttle Series champion stopped the timer at 6.915 seconds at 194.04 mph on his first quarter-mile lap aboard the Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Suzuki GSXR. He added a 6.986 at 192.99 on his final run.
Tonglet, who is the defending race champion, meets Angie Smith (No. 9, 6.916 at 193.43) in the first round.
After experiencing a motor problem at last week’s Countdown playoff opener at Charlotte, he began Friday’s qualifying with an 11.557-second run. But the mechanical trouble was fixed and he followed it with a 6.978 effort on the ensuing lap. “We have been struggling a little bit but things are starting to come around,” said Tonglet. “But they sure are slow coming around. We need to improve . . . and soon. This could be the make-or-break race for us in terms of making another run at the championship.”
