MORRISON, Colo. – It was nail-biting time Saturday for LE Tonglet in his final qualifying attempt to bump his way into Sunday’s Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. And he answered in championship fashion, recording his quickest elapsed time of the weekend, 7.302 at 181.60 mph.
The Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Suzuki GSXR’s performance boosted him from 17th to 11th place and into a first-round match against Andrew Hines (No. 6, 7.276 at 184.35).
“That wasn’t the way we wanted to get in . . . but we made it in,” said a relieved Tonglet. “The tune-up was coming around on each run. We did struggle with the 60-foot time, but that came around on that run. It was stressful, but we held things together and kept our cool.
“Now we have to get a tune-up ready for (Sunday’s race against) Andrew. We got enough data and should be okay.”
