LARRY MORGAN HEADED TO FORD IN 2010

NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock racer Larry Morgan will complete the full circle of the Big Three as he plans to run a Ford Mustang Pro Stocker in 2010. Morgan raced a GM in the 1980s and 1990s before headed to a Mopar.
“We are very excited to be involved with Ford Racing and think this is a great opportunity for myself and everyone here at Larry Morgan Racing Inc.,” said Morgan, in a press release posted on NHRA.com “I am looking forward to working closely with Ford Racing Engineering in the design of new cylinder heads and blocks necessary to bring their Pro Stock program to the top of the class.”
Morgan is expected to unveil his 2010 Mustang later this season for testing.
“Our goal is to have a Ford motor completed and be testing by Indy,” said Morgan in that same press release. “I want to go into the 2010 season with a competitive engine program and a competitive race car, and I think the switch to Ford will allow me to do that.”
Morgan will join the Jim Cunningham operation as the only Ford teams in Pro Stock. Rumors persist that Roush-Yates are actively seeking engine lease customers for a possible foray into NHRA Pro Stock.
Last year CompetitionPlus.com predicted that although the Ford Motor Company isn't backing a Pro Stock effort, they could be in a position to overtake the class. ARTICLE LINK

I wish there were 5 Ford's in the field! Not that I'd pull for the Blue Oval but, but, but, but it's good for competition on raceday!

I agree. The only thing I worry about is the aero package of the 'stang. Maybe looks are deceiving in this case, but I'm afraid that even if they're able to draw the ponies out of the Ford engine package, they'll still be behind trying to drive that sled through the air.
Like I said, maybe they have better tunnel numbers than they look like they do. Or maybe the new ones, which I haven't seen, are a little slicker. Either way, I hope one of those scenarios is true.

According to Jim Cunningham when I talked to him at G-ville he said the new 'Stangs "will be swoopier than anything else out there." Hope it's true, would love to see a Ford crack the quick 16.

The current Mustang bodies hold their own very well in IHRA thank you. And the new version currently being developed by Ness is apparently MUCH better aero wise. It's been a lonnnnng wait, but things are finally looking up for us Ford Pro Stock Fans.
Yes the Mustang does great in IHRA, but that isn't really an apples to apples comparison. For the NHRA teams planning to run them I think a new body would help them out a lot.

or instead of having to turn the new Mustang in a "gas funny car" to be aerodynamically competitive, maybe NHRA should kick out all the FWD compacts in Pro Stock and switch back to RWD performance cars since Ford, Chevy and Dodge all build them again

Well, since the "Government" is already spending money in racing why not? i.e. The U. S. Army (plus other branches)
