At Bristol, Erica had the wheel controversy and was dq'ed from a qualifying run, but also Antron had one of his qualifying runs dq'ed for a rear wing violation (which he freely admitted was their mistake). Now this Langdon potential issue. I'm sure there have been dqs in the past, but this seems like a lot in the last couple weeks. Makes me wonder if NHRA changed/toughened their inspection standards? As a coincidence, Indy Car has also been under fire when a couple Penske cars were caught with illegal parts and it turned out they had been passing inspections for a whole year because it wasn't something the inspectors were looking for. Total speculation, but maybe motorsports series in general are not doing a very thorough job of inspection and now they're realizing they gotta be more exhaustive.

NHRA typically does this type of thing midseason, at least if the past is any indication. They start cracking down on all kinds of stuff. Rule bending is part of the game.

Why is there no replay video of the TF final there? I understand “under review”…. But I think a review should be time-limited and the decision should made within that specified timeframe. Like they do in football or hockey. But in racing I get that perhaps additional materials testing could be required in order to make a final determination (i.e. fuel, measurements, metal composition, etc.).
Officials shouldn’t have an unlimited amount if time to review whatever. Do it asap, make the call then stick to it and move on. Mistakes and human error happen; part of life. But shoring up this review system also pushes the officials and competitors to be even more on the ball, everytime they’re out there.

Or maybe just not make rules dictating everything under the sun? The idea of "if it's not explicitly permitted, it's prohibited" has infected motorsports and is counter to everything they are supposed to be about. Racing should be first and foremost about using your head and skills to build a better car than the next guy. That means leaving room in the rulebook to innovate, not demand everyone use the same stuff the same way.

Clay Millican had his Q3 run DQ'd due to a wing infraction (wing was a 1/4 inch too far back). In Clay's newest video he showed the NHRA checking other rear wings in TF.

That means leaving room in the rulebook to innovate, not demand everyone use the same stuff the same way.
That’s what led to Grumpy Jenkins being allowed to run a tube chassis in his ‘72 Pro Stock Vega.
He justified the tube chassis use by saying it was safer than a factory subframe.
Once the safety term was used, there was no way NHRA was going to penalize Grumpy.

But, back to the original topic. There should be a time limit on decisions regarding a race’s outcome. If a decision can’t or won’t be made in a timely manner, the run should stand.

this hits the nail in the exact center.

Really? He loses the victory because of that? Where are we going here? How about a small fine and maybe a loss of a few points. This penalty seems way extreme. How many bolts did he have? 11? Maybe one came loose during the run? Sheesh.

And Clay's Team gets a penalty based on a 1/4" discrepancy? Really? 1/4" is some kind of major performance advantage? Wouldn't 1/4" be within a margin of error when measuring?
