L.E. Tonglet surprises with fifth-quickest time; Angie McBride 13th at U.S. Nationals (1 Viewer)

It took L.E. Tonglet only two runs to get comfortable aboard Matt Smith's Frameworksmg.com Pro Stock Motorcycle. On his third quarter-mile trip down the O'Reilly Raceway Park asphalt, the 19-year-old from Metairie, La. produced the fifth-quickest elapse time -- 7.015 seconds at 186.77 mph in the second day of qualifying for Monday's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals,

Teammate Angie McBride improve her time to 7.090-seconds at 184.37 mph effort that put the Nitro Fish Pro Stock Buell 13th going into Sunday's final two qualifying runs.

"On that run, I worked on the clutch and made adjustments," said Smith. "I went one way with L.E.'s bike and the other with Angie's, and now we know what do to with the tune-up on both bikes on Sunday."

"It felt awesome," said Tonglet, a rookie in his first NHRA PSM race. "Matt set up the clutch and we had a .105 60-foot time. He knows what to do to get this kind of result."

McBride was looking for a quicker time. "We had hoped to get in the top 10 so now we'll get ready for Sunday's qualifying runs."

"She'll do fine," added Smith.
