BRAINERD, Minn. (8/12/06) -- Kenny Koretsky will be competing in Sunday's Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, marking his return to competition after a 10-month absence.
Koretsky was all smiles Saturday afternoon after being assured a starting assignment. His Nitro Fish Wear Dodge Stratus was timed in 6.783 seconds at 202.82 mph on his first run Saturday and it held up for 15th overall. The popular driver from Richboro, Pa. had not driven a racecar since his serious accident with Bruce Allen 10 months ago. He races Jason Line (No. 2, 6.753 seconds) in the first round.
"Kenny did a great job this weekend," said Eddie Guarnaccia, his longtime friend and crew chief. "He got into this car for the first time in 10 months and did what he needed to do to get the car qualified. We didn't test anywhere.
"Certainly we had some concerns, but he went out and made all the right decisions in the car. I'm really looking forward to Sunday."
