Koretsky Leaves First But Can’t Hold Off Jeg Coughlin

Kenny Koretsky was pleased with certain aspects of his first-round Pro Stock loss to Jeg Coughlin in the opening round of Sunday’s rain-delayed O’Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.

“I am getting back into the driving groove,” said Koretsky, who missed most of the 2006 season and was the 16th qualifier in an abbreviated two-run, rain-shorted qualifying session here. “I think we are getting things together on Greg Hill’s Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Chevy Cobalt team. We have the horsepower in Steve Schmidt motors but we can’t seem to get it to the ground.”

Koretsky’s reaction time was .023-second to a .048) and it put him ahead of Coughlin early in the 1320-foot run. But Koretsky’s car slowed to 6.753 seconds at 205.85 mph and Coughlin got the win light with a 6.677 at 206.51.

The team resumes NHRA POWERade Series competition at Las Vegas, April 13-15.
