Koretsky Can’t Overcome Tire Shake to Get Past Morgan

Kenny Koretsky was frustrated. He’d just left the starting line Sunday with an excellent reaction time against Larry Morgan in the first round of the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals at Route 66 Raceway, only to experience tire shake in the Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt

“The car shook pretty hard,” he related. “It knocked me out of the groove on the run. I managed to get it back in the groove and was chasing Larry, but he was too far ahead.”

Koretsky’s time was 6.881 seconds at 204.39 mph to Morgan’s winning 6.692 at 206.17.

“We can’t catch a break,” said the veteran competitor from Richboro, Pa. “In six of our first eight races, I’ve had a .023-second reaction time average and still haven’t won. We are going to do our homework and get ready for the six races in a row coming up in a few weeks.”

Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia had Koretsky’s Cobalt running consistently despite the difficult track conditions. His quickest, 4.650 seconds at 207.34, held up for the 10th starting spot.

“We made a lot of progress in the clutch area this weekend,” Guarnaccia said. “We made a clutch change going into or third qualifying session (Saturday). It was a good time to make it because we could work on the combination before race day. I thought we had a good combination going into Sunday. Kenny has done an excellent job of driving.”

The six-pack of races gets underway at Englishtown, N.J., June 24.
