Jonnie Lindberg 5.36@272!!

Bet he was in the inspection barn a long time :) one heck of a pass and one heck of a weekend for him and his crew
 
His run was so good and he ran so well the rest of the weekend, he could have made the Fuel Funny Car finals and finished 3rd! :) I know this is pure conjecture but humor me for a moment. On his record run, he ran 4.536 to 1000'. That would have been good enough to qualify him 14th in the Fuel class, moving Lee to 15th, DeJoria to the bump, and leaving Creasy, Diehl, and Tasca on the outside looking in. In the 1st round, he would have matched up with Beckman, Johnson Jr., and Capps. Beckman ran a 4.05, TJ Jr. ran a 7.08, and Capps scraped the wall. So if Lindberg ran something in the 4.53-4.60 range he would have advanced along with Fast Jack. In round 2, he would have been in the Beckman, J. Force, Hight quad. Beckman ran a 4 flat, Force ran a 9.26, and Hight red lit. Lindberg probably would have ran better than Force's 9.26, which would have advanced him to the final. In the final he would have raced Beckman, Worsham, and Head. Beckman and Worsham made great runs and finished 1st and 2nd. Head ran a 7.45. Another solid run by Lindberg and he would have finished the day 3rd in the nitro class!

What a great weekend for the team. Qualifying number 1, shattering both the e.t. and speed records, and winning the race. Usually you can't do much better than that, but maybe, just maybe, knowing you had the 3rd best funny car on the property regardless of what fuel was in the motor, makes it even a little bit better. ;)

Linberg better get the cover of the next ND! I still can't believe NHRA and sites like CompetitionPlus haven't had an article/report on his record setting runs! They weren't just the best runs of the event, they were quite possibly the best runs of the decade!!
 
Just some little fun facts about the milestone. It came nearly 28 years to the day that the nitro 5.30 barrier was broken. Kenny Bernstein ran 5.397 on April 5th, 1987. Where at? The still new, all concrete, Texas Motorplex. He ran it in round 1 to beat Johnny West, then bettered it with a pair of 5.36's in the semis and finals. Mike Dunn ran an all time best speed of 273.14 that weekend too. However, since it was the Winston All-Stars, they didn't count as national records. When the tour came back to Dallas that fall for the Chief Auto Parts Nationals, John Force was the first to have a backup and set an official record in the 30's with a 5.396. However, his record didn't last the weekend. Ed McCulloch won the race and lowered it to a 5.366. Mike Dunn brought his big MPH charges back that weekend to break 280 mph. I think it'll be a while until a TA/FC sees 280 mph, but with the ways these guys have been going, and a second stop at Charlotte this fall, you never know!

And as someone had mentioned about him making it to the nitro funny car finals, he could have qualified and won vs the TA/D field!
