Johnson Clinches Countdown Spot after Reaching Quarterfinals at Seattle (1 Viewer)

Team Mopar® NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson reached the quarterfinals of the 24th Annual NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash., on Sunday, Aug. 7, clinching a spot in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Johnson, the No. 4 qualifier, edged Larry Morgan in the opening round with a run of 6.587-seconds at 210.54 mph, with a reaction time of 0.041 to his opponent’s 6.591/210.37, with a 0.040 reaction time.

In the quarterfinals, Johnson found himself matched up against No. 5 qualifier Erica Enders. The native of Greeneville, Tenn. used a nearly perfect reaction time of 0.004 to get off the line first, followed by a pass of 6.609/210.60, with Enders running a quicker 6.573/209.88 to win by eight feet at the line. Johnson recorded the top speed and best reaction time of the event on his way to securing a spot in the Countdown to the Championship for the fifth consecutive year.

Vincent Nobile also advanced to the quarterfinals with Mopar power under the hood of his machine. The rookie sensation scored a first–round win over Ronnie Humphrey with a run of 6.588/210.01 coupled with a reaction time of 0.014 to his opponent’s 6.604/210.18 with a 0.053-second reaction time. Nobile, who fell in the quarterfinals to Jason Line on a red-light foul, also clinched a spot in the Countdown to the Championship in his first full season in Pro Stock.

Johnson is currently sixth in the NHRA Pro Stock standings, just two points out of the fifth position, while Nobile is fourth, with one race remaining before the Countdown to the Championship begins.
