(8/27/08) NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO – As a two-time event winner in the Pro Modified Racing Association presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario, Joe Boniferro and his team would like to make it three at the upcoming Third Annual PMRA Challenge at the Grand Bend Motorplex this weekend.

Ironically, the owner of the Smokin’ Joe’s 1991 Dodge Avenger Pro Modified has won both his races at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

“We looking for the three-peat,” said team crew chief Ryan Boniferro. “We’re hoping we can make it three in a row at Grand Bend.”

In 2006, Boniferro won the first PMRA at Grand Bend when he defeated Jerry Bowles of Gadshill, Ontario in the final.

The win was the first in PMRA competition for the Avenger driver, and helped him split the 2006 Championship with Kasey Janzen of St. Catharines, Ontario, as both drivers tied in the points at year’s end.

Pitted against Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario in the final in last year’s Grand Bend race, Boniferro became the first driver in PMRA racing to win more than one race.

Boniferro has not won any events so far in 2008, but he is presently tied for fourth in points.

“We had some problems earlier this year with the car,” added Boniferro, “but we think we’ve got the car in good shape for Grand Bend.”

The Smokin’ Joe’s team will be one of a large contingent of PMRA Pro Modifieds that will take to the Grand Bend Motorplex quarter-mile for qualifying and eliminations over the two-day event. The first of three qualifying rounds is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Saturday, and then at 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Final Championship eliminations will begin Sunday, August 31 starting at noon.

Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario continues to lead the 2008 Championship Point Award Series sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen with 1136 points. Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario is second with 1094 points, Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario is in third with 1062 points, followed by Randy Jewell of Holley, NY and Boniferro tied for fourth with 1058. The Grainy Brothers from North Tonawanda, NY are next with 921 points.

The Pro Modified Racing Association presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario returns to action Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31, with the Teamsters Canada Thunder by the Beach Weekend featuring the "Night of Nitro" and Third Annual - PMRA Challenge at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario.

There will be three qualifying sessions on Saturday starting at 5:00 p.m. and the championship eliminations for the top eight qualifiers will begin Sunday at 12:00 noon.
