Job security at Schumacher racing

Wow, Cory Mac, Medlin and Ace plus who knows how many more of the lesser known crew guys. I realize it's a business but everybody there has to be nervous. Doesn't sound like a very comfortable or secure place to work. If I was at DSR I'd be updating my resume and looking.

Your post is somewhat misleading.

Cory Mac was Fram's decision, not DSR's ... and Cory Mac is still a driver coach/ambassador for DSR.

John Medlen is still employed at DSR, he is just not the crew chief on the NAPA car. They are rolling out a 4th Funny Car next year, something tells me John will have plenty to do.

The Ace left on his own, decided to hang it up. Is Don supposed to tell him no?

My point is employee's don't seem to be very well treated/protected there. None of the three were treated with the respect they deserve. JMO

what knowledge of what went on behind the scenes do you have? You can't make a blind comment. Medlen did what he had to do. Ace controlled his destiny. It's a business as well you cant forget that, as i imagine as don saw it, he believed in Ace and gave him till the summer, i am a fan of ace but you can't take a sponsor for granted, the change had to be made. Now Ace retired, your not in his head, it's too harsh to also blame don's behavior.
The people your speaking of may of found better opportunities or wanted a change. It's impossible to say if don's at fault.

I'm not sure how many people are employed by DSR, but I'd guess it's more than the three mentioned here. John, to make a blanket statement about DSR based upon these three is unfair, and quite frankly makes you look like a NASCAR fan.

i agree! what's next.....Force fired coil......Cagnazzi fired Jeg.....I mean this entire thread is misguided....you cant be judgemental on what we all know much of nothing about

Yeah, not one single other person has been fired or left of their own accord from any other team ever in the history of drag racing. Everyone is in their original position.

Lame post is lame.

Thats the way the racing world is now, it is a business. Don't act like Shumacher is some kind of villian, he is a business man first just as Force is. This is not drag racing 1970 anymore.

Don probably has more people than he needs, he has a machine shop, 3 dragsters, maybe 4 funny cars, helped with pro stock motorcycles, helps with a nostalgic funny car , etc, etc, etc.
He keeps paychecks going to these people because he knows how to run a business.

Ironically, Medlen left Force because he wanted to tune a car and Force didn't have that opportunity for him when they put Zippy's car away. Wonder what he's thinking now?

Chris, please stop making sense and throwing facts out there, it makes for such a boring thread!

Call me crazy but if you have a sponsor that provides a budget, a proven driver and the car doesn't run worth a darn why wouldn't the owner shake things up. Same thing happened at the Al-Anabi team and the Copart team. Whoever started this post, isn't a business owner.

Most of the 11 or so who posted to this thread must have failed third grade reading. No where did I say anyone was fired. What I said was the employees of DSR must be nervous after all the change. I also indicated I would be if I was a DSR employee.

I said it is a business although most of you failed to read that sentence. I understand business having ran an organization with several hundred employees for 20+ years. Sometimes change is necessary although the most successful have little or no turnover.

I would also suggest that DSR (and its only a guess) on a per capita basis is second only to Lucas Racing in employee turnover.

I also realize that DSR has many fans on this forum and any criticism is met with very negative reactions.

As always this is just my opinion.

If as an employe of the team, you have made yourself a valuable asset, you would have no reason to be nervous.

I've managed huge teams, and counseled managers of even larger teams. The question the OP asks is a good one: if I'm an employee of DSR and I see all these changes, won't I be nervous?

The answer is yes, _IF_ the managers of DSR don't handle it correctly. But if they do it right, and sit down with the others and explain the situation, why each person left, how the situations were each for their own reasons, how they are valuable employees and don't need to be worried about their jobs, and that this isn't some kind of wholesale layoff, everything should be fine.

Don's run a company for years, I'm sure he's a smart guy, and I'm betting he's got it under control.

How do you guys _know_ how they were treated? Were you in the room when the conversations happened? All we've seen is the press reports. And as we all know, the press gets everything right, all the time... not.
