Job security at Schumacher racing

Most of the 11 or so who posted to this thread must have failed third grade reading. No where did I say anyone was fired....I also realize that DSR has many fans on this forum and any criticism is met with very negative reactions.

so far from the point. you want to call don an evil and horrible team owner based on what you first posted about is crazy. Don't deny it, this is exactly what your trying to say. I'm no huge DSR fan but this whole dark side racing that hot rod fuller started. What's the dark, he has money to work with, he uses the best equipment, and the best people that can get the job done at that time. I dont understand why Don Schumacher has so many of these "internet enemies" who know nothing except for forming accusations based on any new news from dsr.

another point: i can imagine being a crew chief is extremely hard, the "big name" crew chiefs are getting millions for a few years and for every one of those years your expected to be tuning as a front runner on the entire contract and if they are off a season, damn right in the middle of the season and by sure the end if things are not changed with performance, there's gonna be changes, and it should be expected.

Statement of the YEAR!

Its a known fact that Fuller said what he said because DSR has the funding and talent to do whatever they need to do to win championships, period. Unfortunately, aside from Scelzi, that has been limited to Tony and his 6 straight titles, plus numerous wins.
Its also a fact that a lot of people, especially in todays economic crunch, do not appreciate people who spend money like it grows on trees. I think its important to note that even though the economy's been struggling the past couple of years, DSR seems to have not skipped a beat. In fact, I believe they have advanced and gotten stronger.
Force mentions that he had to force paycuts across the board to tighten the belts this year. Why? Does he not get his sponsor money upfront? Does he not have the money in his company to float the company until the sponsor money comes in if its not paid up front?
I haven't heard one moan from anyone at DSR about paycuts, potential paycuts, layoffs, potential layoffs or anything unless a team loses funding and that team is being shutdown.
I applaud DSR and the management staff, Mike Lewis, etc that help Don run this business.

Unless you're Cory McClenethan?

There is another thread that gives several possible reasons for Cory's departure, including the four holeshot losses this year and a less-than-stellar .378 leaves-first percentage. That, I think, is the "If" part in Jay's comment.

wow I did not know it was so high that he gets LEFT ON 62.2% OF THE TIME! I don't care what class you race, that's death for any championship hope in any NHRA pro class.

I'm not trying to beat cory up here, but how can I not? he's pretty much adding 2-5 hundreds on to the e.t of that car 62.2% of the time on sunday.

and anyone who wants to now hint at ronnie thompson leaving dsr give me a break. About time he gets a chance to shine, he's been trained by the best, to go from beard's right hand man to john stewart to the ace's is plenty or training. If Alan Johnson gives you a phone call are you gonna reject it?

Here's to Ronnie Thompson!

Pete - just to clear up your "known fact", Rod only made a public statement using a term that most teams had been using for DSR for many years. And it does not refer to the items you mentioned, but to the methods by which DSR uses to get those items.

And considering Don and Corey are of the same ilk, it was surprising to many in the industry that it lasted as long as it did.

I don't believe anyone was publicly disrespected in any of the departures. Things change, circumstances change, life goes on for everyone.

Hey Virgil, Any hope on Rhoda, John, or Richard making some races next year?

None of us have qualified to work for DSR yet, so we aren't worried about that job security. (This is sarcasm for those that have trouble recognizing it) I speak to Don, some of his sponsors and members of his team periodically and have no quarrels with any of them.

Richard will be the crew chief for Terry McMillan again next year and will drive a Prostalgia car a couple of times. John will be going to Austrailia real soon for some events there. He will be crew chief for a couple of parttime teams on the NHRA circuit and will be crew chief for a team in Europe for their season. Who knows when Rhonda will reappear. She has some options, just looking for the one that fits with her objectives. As for me, I will be popping up here and there every now and then.

Richard did an awesome job tuning that car this year, and with all the data he accumulated I suspect they will be even a bigger threat next year.

Wishing John the best on his trip....got to chat with he and Stig at Pomona. We were looking at Stigs lowered trailer and they pretty much dropped what they were doing to chat and answer our questions.
Its nice to see someone that is still that hands on living the dream.

Does anybody realize the hole this sport would see if Don just packed it in and sold all his stuff???

say what u want about Don Shoe, but, as an owner, the guy has signed more major sponsors than most of the others combined !!

If your referring to me i truly meant no sarcasm at all. I was just wondering what the families plan was for next year.

I wasn't, I had just made a statement that could be taken many ways.

A long time ago a wise old man gave me an example of how important each of us are in the scheme of what takes place in this world. He told me to get a bucket of water, stick my hand and forearm in the water, and then remove my hand quickly. He said the void left is the same size as the void each of us will leave when we depart a project, or life entirely.

Yes, if one of the major individuals, or multicar teams were to exit the sport an immediate impact would be felt, they would be missed, but the void they left would suck replacements in immediately. Most of the sponsors were somewhere else before, as were most of the employees.

Did DSR fold up when AJ left? Do you think JFR will wither away with the departure of Austin? Snake closed up shop, did the sport stop? How many cars was EK helping when he suddenly stopped paying, did the sport stop? I think even if the sanctioning body closed their doors, there are groups that would jump at the chance to take over what they have.

you make a great point. and you yourself need to be back out there putting yourself in the mix of names. I am only 26 and only have 12 years of drag racing fan experience, yet i knew you were good at what you did. Just too bad that Rhonda or John cant get a full time deal. I would love to see your name back with a contending team.
