It Was ____ Years Ago That….. (75th Anniversary of NHRA) (6 Viewers)

Wasn't that Gay's last run? I don't remember him ever driving after that.
And WTH was he trying to do, it was a qualifying run.
Yeah it was. I’m not sure if he was just outside the qualifying and ,being final session, probably tried anything to get in.

This thread is for everyone to join in. I thought it was great that Randy and Carl joined with ones of their own.
So, like I said.... "well, we're waiting!" Just make it interesting, because.....
"I find it interesting to meet such interesting people and talk about interesting things, my stars...."

It was approx. 55 years ago I went to my first event at Englishtown, met Kenny Bernstein and he asked me into his pit area to mix his fuel. He handed me an air hose and had me blowing bubbles to mix it. Non NHRA Wednesday night event.

Wow, 55 years ago, very cool. Bernstein was in the seat, Ray Alley's "Engine Masters" 1971 Dodge Charger flopper. What was the
Wednesday night deal? One of those East vs. West Funny Car races...Bitchin

Honestly I do not remember the event just that they did run on Wednesday nights, Dad would get off of work and drive me there from Long Island to watch them, funny cars and street cars of all kinds. Some Wednesdays were semi trucks I do not remember many dragsters.

It was 39 years ago I attended my first full race at Englishtown, but probably 53 years ago that I saw my first drag race as a little kid. I don't remember much but there were front engine dragsters running....

60 years ago I went to my first drag race. It was at the original Tucson Dragway.
The first car I saw run was the Speed Sport dragster of Lyle Fisher and Red Greth.
It was a front engine car.
Greth lived three blocks from my home. I went to school with one of Greth’s sons. But I’ll be darned if I can’t remember his name.
After the Saturday night races, often times, a racer would stay at Greth’s house, with his race car parked in front of Greth’s home. I got to sit in several different cars; a couple being one of Romeo Palimedes’ cars and the Lime Fire ‘Cuda FC.
If I had a camera then I could have gotten pictures of a bunch of cool cars.
