The search for a winning combination takes LE Tonglet into the third NHRA Countdown to the Championship race Friday when the reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle champion begins qualifying for the Auto-Plus Fall Nationals, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, at Maple Grove Raceway, near Reading, Pa.

Tonglet has seen his chances of winning back-to-back titles wane when the Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Suzuki GSXR experienced engine problems. He won four of the six Countdown races a year ago and was runner-up at Maple Grove. He arrives in sixth place with 2,164 points.

“This has been very frustrating for us,” Tonglet said of the team’s recent struggles. “We hope this race will be the turning point. We should have our good motor back in before Friday’s qualifying begins.

“We obviously need to go some rounds on Sunday (to add up more Full Throttle Series points). “It’s supposed to be cold, and it should be a fast track.”

“This is one of my hometown races,” said Nitro Fish owner Kenny Koretsky, who lives in Richboro, Pa. “I am looking forward to it. We always have a lot of friends and family at Maple Grove.”
