mine has the same thing. I don't really know why we paint them that way, but it's kind a cool :-)

My friend painted the defroster lines on his Dad's funny car as well.. Even Honeycombed the taillights.. Anything to make them look even more true to the stock car they are based off of..

I looked at it frame by frame on my TiVo recording and it looked so real.
I never thought about it being just for looks. I'm suitably embarrassed.

When the cars get simple paint jobs or single color paint jobs for wraps, the artists only get a few places to really shine. And the rear windows are one of those places. The Sivers brothers who paint many of the funny-cars do a great job at looking really authentic. I have also seen others do great work. Between that and lights, that is where we the painters, get to shine on the funny cars.

How else you gonna see out the rear Mirror in the rain?

I guess you guys left after the Rain too huh Paul? I'm at a Kinko's in Lombard right now, I overheard some guy saying a Tornado touched down somwhere in the Western suburb's. He's saying "Listen for the siren's!" I'm like...great!

Uh Joe.... That would be "Fed Ex Office" that your at now...While your dodging the Tornado's!! ;-)

Like Buzz said, little things like this are where ARTISTS get to shine! I remember talking with "the WOZ" once in california, and really taking a look at the detail in his paint, and I was in AWE!!! Part of me is sad that the day's of Corp. Sponsorship and VINAL WRAPS are here, because some of the best paint jobs in the past have been on Drag cars!

I saw a TF/FC that had the DOT numbers painted on the tail lights... Details like that make you do a second look... ;)

We waited for the rain to clear, then the second downpour did it for us. We just got back from grabbing some dinner and are going to have a quiet night.

We decided to get into some dry clothes, went and got dinner at Hooters and froze our arses off as they had the AC set on subzero in Hooters. Had to have some hot wings to warm up. Well, Paul and Greg did anyway.

If you're at Joliet, have a look at the front of Roger Bateman's Mustang TA/FC. It looks like you're looking right through the grill and can see the horn, radiator, etc.

:D

Hey, I was there with John Rogers, Paul Miller and all the kids until it was over!!! My son and I got there at 8am, left the track about 9:30pm.

I think the All Star finals would have been well worth the wait, sounded exciting, and tight racing.

Did you have a good weekend b?

Michael, I just posted a Rapid length (but not as good) summary with some pics in another thread.

Re: Is this actually a rear window defroster in the back window of Steve Harker's TA/

When I saw the thread title/question, I thought he had a bad fire!

Like when I found an old pic of a friend's funny car crossing the line finish line with nothing but fire along the entire underside. He said "Yeah, the driver had the heater on for that run!" :D

Re: Is this actually a rear window defroster in the back window of Steve Harker's TA/

Well I say kudos to Harker for reading the rules! Because if we look long enough, I bet someone in Glendora actually got paid to write a rule somewhere stating that the "cars are not allow to carry ice scrapers/snow brushes. Electrically-operated OEM-style rear window defrosters are allowed."

Geez - What kinda guy goes into Hooters and the WAITRESS sez,. "Is it cool in here - or are you just excited to see me".
