At the Trials the Track announcer was saying that the Track will be there for awhile. I had no idea what they were talking about at the time until I saw that Press release.

Could you imagine if they drained it???? I wonder how many boat pieces are at the bottom??

Since the lake is only 10-12 ft. deep, anything of value was retrieved post haste. I do know that the water is so poor in quality that the boat racers must fresh water flush their boats. They will all tell you that that alkaline water is far worse on the boats than even salt water.

You hit the nail on the head there Bobby. That stuff is so bad it will take the anodizing off the aluminun if you don`t wash it off.

That "poor quality" water is the reason Firebird Lake is such a great lake for drag boats - the water is denser than seawater, so the boats are more bouyant. Also, the water flattens out more quickly after each run, making the wait between pairs much shorter than at most drag boat lakes. Basically, it is the liquid equivalent of an all-concrete dragstrip.

The word is that FB will not move. If the current setup becomes a problem that the strip/ starting line will be moved to the other end of the property. As far as the lake. Well Bondurent(sp?) would be a bigger problem. They use alot of the area.

I've talked to guys who've worked the launch ramp, and the Acid will give you Skin Rashes you didn't think were possible!

Not to get all "Bill Nye the Science Guy" on you, but it's not acid, it's alkali -- very much a base, not an acid. Other end of the scale. :)

I have No idea what it is to be honest, just that a friend of mine's legs looked like he bathed in Acid! And this was after getting in and out of that water 3-4 times for maybe 20 minutes total.

I'll tell you what though, once that Huge Casino gets built they will have to do something about that Maricopa exit! The way it is now it will be a Major Clusterf**k getting in and out of there!

I wonder if they add or remove something so that the water skiers club is safe in it, I doubt they would stay if they were getting horrid rashes and stuff happening to them?

“the water is denser than seawater, so the boats are more buoyant”

The reason raceboats run faster on “thicker” water is that it affords the prop a better “bite”. Race-craft really aren’t in enough contact with the water for buoyancy to have much of an effect. --M--

Top alcohol flats are 2 thenths slower at Fireturd. Many of the bracket flats are 3 tenths slower. The circle boats are much slower. But the wakes do quiet down quicker.
Yes, many an engine has been ruined by not draining the water after the race. Some good blocks destroyed and good heads too.
