It is not so much the exact type of sensor than it is the method/speed of the data acquisition equipment. The sensor DSR used from AVL is a very robust and advanced sensor. AVL is one of the premier automotive testing companies in the world. The problem is, DSR collected the data using the standard Racepak system. The Racepak is not designed to collect ultra high speed data. Whereas the TECAT guys used their own data logging system and sensor which collects at at much higher rate thus providing data that can be analyzed differently and more completely. This is not to say either sensor/method is better than the other, it is to say that each has its own purpose and it all depends on what information you are trying to get. There's even more to it all than that but that's all I have for now.

Thanks for the information, Mike.

AVL uses the same sensor from NCTE which European Top Fuel racers have used for years - nothing new.

The Kallita/TECAT method with (strain gauges plus remote telemetry) is considerably more complex and similar to the way it has been done for decades in other fields but TECAT has added the benefit of modern miniaturisation and modern radio.
