Indoor drag racing!!!

my grandfather actually spent some time at this place back in the day.....he said there was one thing that was crucial. You'd better be straight when you went through the door at the end of the track or else you weren't gonna make it!

That's the answer to the NHRA safety issue at the ends of the track. They had a brick wall at the end of this track, and a couple dozen hay stacks apparently did the job just fine! Who needs concrete barriers and 100 yard clear zones when you can use a single w bean guard rail to shield you from concrete pillars immediatly lining the track! Thats hilarious! Take a close look and that guard rail is actually just sitting on the concrete floor, and not even anchored! I guess it was just a peace of mind!

I love looking at old photos sometimes because of things like this! I was looking over old truck pull photos from the early 80's a while back. The guys driving those tractors with 5 or 6 alcohol motors right in front of them and around them were wearing a flannel shirt, a pair of wranglers and cowboy boots for a fire suit.

YEAH, MIKE

he was right:eek:, that's when they started to say...
"DRIVE IT THROUGH THE BACK DOOR" :)

When I first hit the road in the parts business, we used to do a show every year at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago. I met a guy from Chicago who was also in the parts business, and he told me stories about the old indoor drags they had there. I still have a picture of the Greek with a cute blonde on his arm standing in front of my booth at that show in about 1983 or so. Used to stay at my parts buddy's house some when we would do swap meets in the area, and one night he dragged out old photo albums of a big block injected 66 Chevelle altered wheelbase funny car they built out of a brand new 66 SS396. Those were the days. Is the old building still standing or has it been torn down now???

I guess this is the same thing Rich Christiansen is bringing back !
Most drag races are won or lost on the line so why not ?
