I thought IHRA was going to run Top Fuel and Funny Car to 1000 ft at the Outlaw series. Have I mixed up this type race with another?

All Pros are 1/8th mile at Outlaw Nitro Series events. At the Triple Crown events TF and FC will run 1000’.

They need to speed up the show, no one (stands show it) wants to sit through a marathon. We are all diehards and many of us will sit through it, but the casual fan will not. I am bringing 10 newbies (8 people less than 30) to 4 wide in 2 weeks in Charlotte and one of the reasons why I picked that track was how quick the show should go. If we want to grow the sport, we need to appeal to the younger generation.

Too much time doing track prep. The knell of any sport; if the NFL chalked the yardlines after every 4 downs... if the NBA replaced the rim after every quarter... if the NHL ran the zamboni after every goal...

I'll be interested in what their VHT bill is by Sunday...

If you count the FCs at VA 14, then add the ones that raced last year, McIntyre,,Jackson,Stevens, spare Worsham car, spare Haddock car, there's almost 20 stand alone IHRA funny cars .

That's a bit of a stretch, only 10 cars made a lap and some of those teams also run NHRA.

I think there were 14 entered but yes 10 made laps. i thought I heard announcer say some didnt run at all. Wonder where Bobby Bode and Mike Mcintrye were.Looks like the New Englander is coming back. Follow a Dream car had nice video.

The show reminds me of racing in the late 70s with the downtime and delays.
But I understand they are in a learning curve.
So let's be patient and hopefully we will have another choice of drag racing

They do seem to prep the track more often

I enjoyed watching this race. The fuel categories were good, nearly everyone made it down under power, the finals in T/F and F/C were close, MMPS and P/M (both classes) were good. Records were set, weather and track conditions were great, but, no body in the stands.
I don’t get it. Hopefully it will get better but I have my doubts.

Maybe 8th mile isnt the crowd favorite after all

Doesn't that put an extra burden on TF and FC teams to run two different combinations, depending on the event? That was one of the arguments against running them to 1,320 at tracks with long shutdown areas, and to 1,000 at the shorter tracks.

dan fletcher wins again in STK. somewhere around 35 entries each in STK and SS. not too bad considering
the D2 race at valdosta.

There isn’t any difference in the combination. Rear gear, rev limiter, wing angles, etc,etc are all the same by rule. They all run them as hard as they can to the 1/8th. Past that there may be some differences in the tuneup, but not many.

A lot of these competitors will run both series, so the rules can’t be much different.

The idea behind the Triple Crown races being 1000ft is to entice some of the bigger teams to come race them to experience the IHRA. It’s also a plus for the die-hard anti-1/8th mile fans to experience it as well.
