IHRA Pro Alcohol question

How much prize money would it take to fill the pits with top alcohol funny cars and dragsters? If you run this class what would make your attendance a must? If the nitro attendance doesn’t improve I would drop them and concentrate on Alcohol, MMPS, pro Mod and pro nitrous etc. The PDRA is a success without Top Fuel so maybe the IHRA can create their own niche.

keep in mind it takes a large crew to run a fuel car. The schedules are usually planned well in advance so a crew can all help. I hope next year gets better for car count.

I don’t know if there is a magic number for everyone. I’m sure a 16 car field with 20K/10k/5k/2500 payout would be a start. MWDRS has Alky FC and pays 10k to win. They only draw a handful of cars usually between 3-6.

I’m rather prejudiced here as I am a huge fan of the alcohol class. I’d love to see them in a position where they might actually make a little money. They put on an excellent show and competition. In the 80s there were more cars than anyone knew what to do with. I know I’m living in the past but I sure miss it

I am as well. I’m one of the few sitting in the stands early morning and late at night when they finally get to run. The payouts are pathetic compared to the cost. The allure of running NHRA is racing the best in the world and the opportunity to run with people in the grand stands. The biggest complaints are the payouts, the times they run and sometimes the pit parking. Other series can offer what they want from NHRA but the crowds aren’t there.

From what I’ve seen, the IHRA is treating like pros rather than sportsman racers. I hope this continues and turns into something good.

The end of March racing and booked in shows that paid well for the upkeep of the car enabled for the racers to go to National meets.
That IMHO has killed the alcohol class. Along with the maintenance of today's cars.
