How It's Made "Dragster" segment

The Counterfeiter

Nitro Member
After some hype, this was a huge disappointment. Supposedly, it was to be double the length of a typical story - turned out to be 4-5 minutes and had some severe inaccuracies . It's a shame that Morgan and the team went to so much trouble for a very poor result.

I agree completely I was thinkin it was gonna be a more direct showing. I was thinking possibly going to hadman or mckinney even attic and show how the chassis is made then follow up with the fuel line and all and the engine. I was laughing when it said at the end "and they leave just like they always do in a puff of tire smoke. I dont think that was the run the team wanted lol

Yeah, it was bad

Yeah, pretty rough.

Especially when they were bolting on the cylinder heads and the narrator said they were bolting on the cylinders.

And the salsa guys are probably upset how their segment was done also. But it IS exposure on a popular show. :)

Totally agree, big disappointment! I receorded it and watched it last night...ended up thinking it was a big waste of DVR space, LOL!

It sucked!! I delayed having a cold beer with friends to see it. What was I thinking? The comment about a "puff of tire smoke" kind of somed things up.

Yeh i like the show, but they always seem to find a way to screw something up. All the hype and that was what we got. They need to listen to the professionals more and let them work more with the editors.
BIG THUMBS DOWN FOR THE SCIENCE CHANNEL!!!

For hardcore fans like us, it was too short and too elementary. But for the average science channel viewer, if it gets a few people to buy a ticket to come out that never would have, or tune into ESPN2 to watch, then it was worth it. Kudos to Morgan Lucas Racing, any chance you get to put your team/product in front of non-traditional eyeballs, you gotta do it.

This is one of my favorite shows of all time. Sometimes they squeeze too much into a segment though. For example, how a modern helichopter is made in 5 mins... or I guess how a TF car is built...

But for real, its not very interesting how a TF car is built.. its just tube chassis and an engine. Step 1 - build chassis Step 2, put in engine... The sub-components might be interesting, but they've already had similar segments-

How its made - clutch, tires, carbon fiber anything, engine blocks, windows, firesuits, helmets, brakes, parachutes (hot air balloon) - they even did a how its made NASCAR, probably equally as dissapointint to nascar fans.

I think the mass produced things are what that show does best... nuts, bolts, cookies.. whatever.

It is funny though how everytime someone shows a TF run, they show it smoking the tires like its a good thing. (Geico commercials w/ Lucas - or the KB aircraft carrier - How its made)

Or how the Motel 6 commercials use audio of an alcohol engine over a fuel engine. I remember seeing other science shows doing a documentary on fuel cars who dub in standard stock engine noises over a TF run.

Most people wouldn't notice though, except for I guess the majority of people on this site

It's funny the motel6 alcohol motor over top fuel. I forgot about that one. I remember all the commericals you talk about. I always wondered why GEICO wants to show there name on a dragster who smokes the tires, and it's not a burnout cause it takes the green light

My Dad ran across it and dvr'd it. He knows my interest and is saving it for me to watch. He found it interesting, but after reading the comments I might as well not waste my time. LOL

yea kelly, like me and just like all of us any time NHRA and TV mix we all get excited but most of the time it's meant well but if the makers of these shows go to a race they would be embrassed at how much they got wrong
