How hot can it be?

That is a good point but still, with direct sunlight beating on you at 5800 feet and 100 degrees, you're gonna be hot. Mexican roofers might withstand it a little better but most of us are gonna be looking for shade and a Dasani.
Oh I know, been to Phoenix, twice in July...when it's 108, it's 108......low humidity means nothing.

When I moved to Phoenix in 1986, I was able to drive around with no A/C the first year (most of the time). Since then, we have so many "heat islands" that the temp has gone up. 115 is no big deal (this week is 111-114) anymore. call it THTL - Too Hot To Live. heh And yeah. you go from your air conditioned home to your air conditioned car to your air conditioned job & that's how you survive. I wish NHRA would move the race back to Feb, cuz March can really heat up.
Rumor has it, it will be in February in 2027.

I have a sibling in 29 Palms, when I was young visiting -I got disoriented riding a bike in the summer heat - I ended up going up to a stranger's house & drinking from the outside tap - I never asked and I am sure they saw me, bless their hearts.
😇
In the time it took me to steal a drink, the kick stand melted into the asphalt & the bike fell over, before I almost did.

man that's nuts! Glad you were ok though. I've seen motorcycles' kickstands "sink" in hot asphalt too, but never a bicycle.

Come spend a summer in Southern Illinois with a triple digit heat index and 70 degree dew points! Been to Phoenix and Tuscon when it was above 110 and I thought low humidity made a huge difference. Granted I wasn't going to stand out in the sun in the middle of the afternoon but in the shade it was much more tolerable then at home.

Oh I know about that, have family there, heard the stories....although admittedly when I've visited it's always been late May-early June or in September.

My grandpa used to tease grandma (who was from there) about when we'd visit about the "stale plains air".

Yep. the humidity is terrible for where that area is.
