HIGHT explains MSD peddle feature

First I had heard of this gizmo. Pretty handy being able to take away as much as 2,000HP to try to re-hook after smoking tires.
Some here won't like it though, because it is a "traction control" device.....:p

First time for me, too. Interesting. If this thing adjusted timing, fuel flow and clutch settings in real time rather than being preset before the run, you can bet there'd be problems.

It's been around for years, but it was a nice segment to go inside the shop with Robert in the car to talk about it.

Why would there be problems? It's standard equipment available to everyone. It's an air switch that resets some of the timers etc inside the box.

OK, if it's just an air switch, that would make sense. I thought it was an actual electronic device; if so and it could be programmed to adjust fuel, timing and clutch management in real time, I'm pretty sure NHRA would look at it as a traction control piece. Obviously, it's nothing of the sort if it's been used for years as Songas says.

It is just an air switch. If it is closed before the end of a run(it is a normally closed switch that is open when depressed), as in peddling the car, it changes the electronic timers and ignition to a preset function. It is not real time. As Robert stated, it is part of the tune up that is uploaded before the run.

That was a good explanation for those of us who are not completely intimate with the inner workings of these cars.

The problem is without the peddle feature, the clutch timers and ignition continue to ramp up. You would NEVER get the car to hook back up if you didn't take it away.
And the possibility of a huge explosion, oil down, blower at a right angle to the block, etc.

how many years has this switch been around?
was the famous 2004 burkhart/pedregon pedalfest with or without this switch?
