GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 17, 2007) - It was a record-setting day for Josh Hernandez, driver of the Dr. Moon's Rage '68 Camaro Pro Mod, at the ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. Hernandez ran the quickest AMS Pro Mod run ever, a blistering 5.912/242.63 shattering every previous ET record for the track as well as the entire AMS Staff leasing Pro Modified Challenge presented by Tindle Enterprises, Inc.
"It's one thing to set a record, it's another to do it so soundly, and it's yet another to do it in a winning eliminations round. My hat is off to Howard Moon and the entire crew for working so hard to make it possible," Hernandez said.
"I really can't think of how else to describe how I feel other than amazingly happy. You can pick your favorite superlative and it might come close to how I really feel. Dave Wood, Tommy Lipar and the rest of my sponsors deserve this, and I'm just happy to be able to run so well for them," he said.
On the strength of his best qualifying run of 5.951/243.68, Hernandez has backed up his crushing 5.912 pass, earning him the AMS world record and the precious 100 BAE Championship points - barring another quicker run by any competitor on Sunday.
"The thing that would make this even better would be to win the event and the AMS Eagle tomorrow. I know I still have to do my job, and that is to drive this car straight down the track. I'll give it my very best and hope to come out on top in the end," Hernandez said.
Hernandez has lane choice against Danny Rowe in round two of eliminations tomorrow, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. (EDT) on Sunday at Gainesville Raceway.
