Hernandez Runner Up in Indy

CLERMONT, Ind. (September 3, 2007) - For the third straight year, Josh Hernandez drove his Tommy Lipar Racing-sponsored Dr. Moon's Rage entry to the final round of the greatest race in drag racing - the MAC Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals just outside of Indianapolis, Ind.

Hernandez’ hopes to defend his 2006 event title disappeared in front of his eyes, as he watched the flash of underdog Harold Laird take the stripe just ahead of him in a classic side-by-side final round. In the end, Hernandez' 6.124/237.84 just wasn't quick enough to take out laird who delivered an impressive 6.102/235.72.

"My congratulations to Harold Laird and his team for a great performance this weekend," Hernandez said. "We were really hoping to defend last years title, but it just wasn't in the cards for us this weekend.

"I have to say I'm so proud of my team for getting Tommy Lipar Racing and Dr. Moon's RAGE to the finals for the third straight year at the U.S. Nationals. Their tireless efforts over the weekend kept me on my toes in the car and I'm proud of the results.

"I also want to give a special thanks to Hoosier Tire for keeping us glued to Indianapolis Raceway Park all weekend long and to All Celebrity Travel for getting us here and home," he said.

Hernandez' solid performance brings him close to clinching his championship hopes, having won five events thus far this season. Hernandez holds a sizable 1513 point lead over second place Raymond Commisso.

"Needless to say, Dallas is a very important race for us. It's so close to home, we'll have a whole lot of family and friends there, and I know that Howard Moon [crew chief] and the boys will be working hard to put us well into the field," Hernandez said.
