Hernandez No. 1 in E-Town Heading into Sunday Eliminations

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Consistency and performance are the hallmarks of a championship team, and Josh Hernandez and the Tommy Lipar Racing-sponsored Dr. Moon's Rage '68 Camaro proved they are contenders at the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals. Hernandez reeled off a string of five-second passes and won his first round of eliminations with another five second shot in the AMS Pro Mod Challenge racing.

Hernandez grabbed the No. 1 qualifying honors, earning the Ohio Crankshaft Top Qualifying prize with his 5.950/244.03 run Friday night.

"Howard [Moon, crew chief] has this car on a string and running like a bracket car," Hernandez said.

In the first qualifying round, Hernandez ran a 5.979/244.03. In round two, he ran a 5.950/244.03, and in the final qualifier a 5.951/243.37.

Facing off against Harold Laird in the first round of eliminations, Hernandez laid down another track-burner, 5.967/243.15 to Laird's 6.389/220.73.

"This Dr. Moon's Rage Camaro has been wonderful all year, and we've been really fortunate this weekend. Having a car and team like this is more than any driver can ask, and I'm just the guy who gets to drop the clutch and then pull the chutes. Tommy and all of our sponsors are the ones who have made this possible, and I'm just working hard to give them what they deserve," Hernandez said.

Hernandez has yet to lose a round of competition this year, winning 17 consecutive rounds to date this year and is hoping to make it 20 by the end of Sunday.

"I take each round one at a time, and focus on getting my job done. None are easy, and every one is important. I'm a very luck man to be here, and I have to keep my focus on being consistent," he said.

Hernandez takes on Gene Terenzio in the quarterfinals Sunday morning when eliminations in the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals continues.
