Gulitti Brothers gunning for Top Sportsman titles again in '08

<img src="http://www.nitromater.com/gallery/files/5/chrisgulittitulsa1.jpg" alt="chrisgulittitulsa1" align="right"borders="0"/>SPRING, Texas - After a very strong season in 2007, brothers Chris and Bob Gulitti have both made names for themselves in the Top Sportsman class. Chris had a breakout year in his 1998 Firebird on his way to a second place national finish in IHRA standings, and taking home Division 4 Championships in both the IHRA and NHRA. Bob, driving Larry Rosenquists' 1988 Firebird finished a strong 16th in IHRA national standings, 4th in IHRA Division 4 and 9th in NHRA Division 4 Standings. Both have their eyes set on more championships in 2008. Both cars will continue to receive support from ALL STAR Properties.

With the IHRA (national events) and NHRA (divisionals) going to 32 car fields this season, the offseason has been very busy for the Spring, Texas, based Gulitti family. Team patriarch, George, who won Division 4 "Wrench" of the year last year tuning Chris' car, cites the team did not rest on their laurels after winning the championship last year.

"We have been busy all winter getting ready to get back to racing," said George. "We had the car at JBZ Race Cars to get some parts replaced and upgraded. We also put a new, taller gear from Pyle Brothers in the car as well. In addition to that, we sent the front struts and rear shocks out to be rebuilt, installed a new transmission, shifter, brake pads and mufflers on Chris' car. On the motor, we added a second nitrous system for added power. All in all we are trying our best to repeat as Division 4 Champions."

Bob has been busy as well. He has his brother and the rest of the class in his gunsights for this year.

"We spent some time this winter focusing on making more power," stated Bob. "Jeff over at Jeff Wahlberg's Custom Automotive Machine worked his magic and made some changes to improve efficiency and power. We raised the compression ratio, got rid of some rotating weight and changed camshafts. We've only been able to do a limited amount of testing, but it looks good so far. Once again Larry [Rosenquist] has given me a great car to compete with, and we're really looking forward to getting out there this year. Richard Gomez and Baltazar Garza will return as crewmembers to help keep the car ready to go. Hopefully we can improve on the good year we had last year and make a good showing for our sponsors, ALL STAR Properties, PMS Excavation and Torque Tools, Inc."

Both brothers have also signed InsideFastBrackets.com, a website dedicated to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster racing, as an associate sponsor. Website owner Will Hanna is excited to have the Gulitti Brothers carrying his company's colors into battle.

"I've had a long relationship with the Gulitti family and know they're great people and fierce competitors," cited Hanna. "George was my first paying customer when I started my business. They have been instrumental thus far in helping me get this new website off the ground and I'm really looking forward to working with them this season."

The brothers will make their NHRA debut at the Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener at No Problem Raceway Park this weekend, then make their IHRA debut at the IHRA Summit Pro Am Series Division 4 opener at San Antonio Raceway, Mar. 14-16.
