Greg Stanfield may have been disappointed about qualifying 14th for Sunday’s Big O Tires Nationals, but he hasn’t lost his sense of humor.
“After making four bad qualifying runs” Stanfield said Saturday with a laugh,” we’re sure to make a good one on Sunday” in the first round at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“We need to turn on the win light,” he continued, sans humor. “We know we can run well.”
Stanfield drove the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks Pro Stock GXP to elapsed times of 6.670, 206.95 mph and 6.669, 206.35 on Friday and added his quickest, 6.654, 207.53, and a 6.676, 206.89 on Saturday.
“We’ve continued to make changes and we learned something on the last run that we believe will help us on Sunday.”
He takes on a familiar foe, Allen Johnson (No. 3, 6.630 at 208.33), who defeated Stanfield in the first round at Phoenix two weeks ago.
