Gordie Rivera

Yeah, that was really disappointing to hear about. I don't know how you can be a fan of Pro Stock and not love Gordie Rivera. Glad he's OK.

Sorry to hear about my favorite "underdog". That car could 60ft with the best of them. Just not enough beans on the top end to qualify. Gordie's cars are always sharp to boot!

I read elsewhere that he's done. His son was supposed to start drving soon. It's a bummer, those cars are a fortune, hopefully he can come back.

Gordie is great for the sport, and a great ambassador for Arizona. It was truly sad to watch it happen, it was a nice strait run, until a small wiggle to the left, and then snapped right as the rear end washed out from under it.

Good to see Mark Rebilas carrying on the family tradition, of riveting shots from Firebird's topend!! His Dad has some of the best ever pictures from there!!

That sux... I hate to see anyone crash, especially Gordie. He's been doing this out of his pocket for so long, I hope he or his son will come back from this....

It will be interesting to hear (if the information is ever released) what broke or came loose.

With it being a new car, was there a thrash to get it on the track?

Although it may be not be related to the crash, do not forget that this incident happened in the 2nd qualifying session.

"Rivera was a no show" according to the Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1 from DragRaceCentral.com yesterday.

Glad Gordie's okay. I'm not surprised he says he's done, racing on his own dime and now this. Hopefully something will come through.

I'm pretty sure that's not a new car, looks to be the same unpainted GXP Gordie ran in early '09. Plus, I don't think he can budget a new car every year.

From my point of view; Gordie was in the lanes for the 1st. session but for reasons unknown to me turned around and went back to his trailer. He was the 1st. car out in the 2nd. session. On that run I thought I heard the RPM come up just before he got sideways. Now if it was due to track or something in the car I can't say. Luckily when he did go over he just landed on his top and slid down track, not doing any repeated flips like we've seen many do.
Gordie has always been a favorite of mine, and always had sharp looking cars. I thank him for all the years he has been doing this and if he thinks it's time to step aside I understand.

Mark Rebilas just posted on Facebook that Vinnie Deceglie just crashed. Nearly identical to Gordie's wreck.

History repeats itself?

Deceglie was straight down the groove until just before 1000 feet when the car drifting a little out of the groove and then all of a sudden made a quick move to the right and flipped on to the roof and slid through the finish line and into the right side wall. The car spun on it's roof and it slid down the track finally coming to a stop about 300 feet past the finish line. the report from the top end is Deceglie is out of the car and okay.

Sounds like a copy of Gordie's run.

EXACTLY, SAME LANE this time too. Danny Gruninger was in the same lane and had to click it a taste early to avoid the wreck and missed the field by .013 seconds....Something J.D.L.R.....

You make it sound like WJ shouldn't put his .02 in. Why is that? All these guys should put their 2 cents in, since it's their arses on the line. Obviously there is a big problem with the track, and it has the biggest effect on the PS cars, which have a ton of power but very little down-force.
