GM Pro Stocks for 2012

I'd still like to see someone massage the Cadillac CTS-series cars... May be a bit to angular- not teardrop enough

Why must it be a two door? How soon we forget the Gapp and Roush "TAXI" 4-door Maverick that used the (then in effect) wheelbase rule to advantage back in the day... proving once and for all that the number of doors on a Pro Stocker is meaningless when it comes to winning... which that car did a lot!

The sales success of the contemporary 4-door Dodge Charger pretty much laid to rest the argument that a performace car HAD to have 2 doors... along with the early CTS-V Caddys...

I used to wonder why I saw so many 4-door modified drag car bodies in Australian magazines 'til some guy from "down under" explained to me that 2-door cars were in REAL short supply in Oz.... most car companies didn't offer them... so, they worked with what they had, and guess what??? They went just as fast as the 2-doors.

Just sayin'....

I think the Front end looks like it means business.. :D

Think of today's pro stocks as early '70s funnys... Plastic bodies with about the same amount of mods...

The Camaro is a bigger car than a Cobalt. It's pushing a lot more wind with that big flat front end. Wasn't a concern during the first generations of Pro Stock, but it sure is now. They'd have to alter the front of it a LOT if they were going to make it work. Same thing with the Challenger, which is why we'll never see one of those in the near future. If the DID use them, they'd have to cut them down in the front so much, they'd be unrecognizable.

It been said that Chevrolet is coming out with a tudor version of the Cruze in '13. (I'm thinking I may have to get one of those. I LOVE my 4 door.!)

In fact, here's a picture of my car the day I picked it up. I happen to think the body would make a very effective pro stock shape, especially the nose. Plus, it's Chevy's hottest selling car. The Lordstown Ohio plant has been working 3 shifts to keep up with demand. I had to wait four weeks to get mine. (I wanted certain features and wasn't willing to buy it without them.)

From what I've heard, the tudor version is supposed to be a bit swoopier in profile. I think it would work. And (From another discussion on this board.) I think the younger generation could more readily identify with it than the current crop of Mustang/Camaro/Challengers that were created to appeal to the grey hairs out there.

Now you have the Car companies being more involved and NASCAR is using the Challengers. I would NOT want to see these crappy cars. Cobalts and GXP don't do it for me and I'm more part of this younger generation (I'm going to be 26 in March). I would rather see the Camaros Mustangs and Challengers than seeing Camry's Celicas and Mazdas or any cars of the like. I'll prefer those when Team Puerto Rico and Carlos Montano (As Hugo Umpierre would say "El Pepe LLLoooOOOoooOOOoooOOOoooOOOOCO!") race them at E-town.

I'd like to see a pro stock field made up of Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers myself. maybe some rules that require stock front end width and windshield angle. If they did it right, the 3 approved bodies could hve nearly identical aerodynamic profiles, so nobody would have an advantage aerodynamically. Oh yeah, and funny car bodies that actually look like the cars they represent...guess I'm really dreaming now...

Back in Nov 08 I said that NHRA should mandate only the 3 bodies be allowed in PS.

It would FORCE all 3 mfg to seriously increase their involvement.

It would FORCE all 3 mfg to seriously increase their involvement.

Or FORCE all 3 manufacturers to tell NHRA to go pound sand. There is NOTHING mandating manufacturer involvement. The manufacturers are there to sell cars ... if they want to spend money in NHRA by turning front driving four door cars into Pro Stockers, it is absolutely in NHRAs best interest to let them ...

PS I would personally like to see Camaros and Challengers running with the Mustangs ... but I am satisfied as long as the manufacturers stay involved.

 HEY!! YOU CALLIN' MY CAR CRAPPY?!?!?!?!? HUH?!?!?!?!?

Goes to the corner to pout and sulk........

IMHO, the Camaros and Challengers were designed to appeal to grey haired old farts (like me) who grew up with the originals, and who want the “feel” of one of the originals but want new car quality and conveniences. (I prefer the Challenger, by the way. Make mine a Hemi with stick, if you please. :) )The market for them is sort of built in, and I don’t see it getting any bigger than is it. (The Mustang seems to be the exception to this rule, and has, to me at least, proved the timelessness of the marque.)

If Detroit (Or Tokyo) wants to be involved with the sport, that involvement is going to be based on the assumption that when the season is over, that participation (and investment) resulted in new car sales increases of their mainstream models.

It’s true that NASCAR is using the Mustang and Challenger in the Nationwide series. But they’re also still using the Impala and Toyota Camry. They’re still using the Impala, Charger & Camry in Sprint Cup racing, all of them being 4 door sedans in productions models.

I want to see a CTS. Caddy should be in it especially with an XLR

How about "Back to the Future"?

Put the Drag Paks and Mustangs and the new Camaro factory racecars into their own class and go back to where Pro Stock started.

Touring drivers in cars that look like something you can buy. And guess what? You can buy one and go race with them. Local heros and divisional champions.

There would be more in the stands on sunday and they would sell more on monday!!!!
