Toronto, postrace: Bob Gilbertson went to the IHRA Canadian Nationals with high hopes but an engine explosion set back his plans of winning and taking over the IHRA eMax points lead.
Gilbertson, who was only 24 points out of the lead, lost in the first round when his 7,000 horsepower engine exploded due to a mechanical failure as a valve train part failed causing the engine to eat itself up.
"This was an expensive weekend for this team," Gilbertson said. "Not counting the parts we blew up, we also lost ground in the eMax points standings and we have only have two more races to make up ground if we're going to win this deal."
"We'll just have to buy some more parts this week and head up to Budds Creek (Maryland) for this weekend's Torco Race Fuels President's Cup Nationals, a track I've never been to before, and swing for the fences," Gilbertson added. "We've got to win the next two races, Maryland and the World Finals next month in Rockingham (North Carolina) which is my home track and we're going to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal."
