George Landis thrills fans at Pinks event

(April 24, 2008) Boca Raton, FL - Next Generation Racing team driver, George Landis, got an unexpected phone call last week from Trey Capps, race official with NMCA. Capps was assisting television producers of the hit show Pinks, and was looking for several local hot rods to make a few exhibition runs in Gainsville, filming site of an upcoming Pinks All Out episode. "I actually attended a Pinks race once as a spectator in West Palm Beach, and could not believe the massive crowds", said Landis. Car owner Steve Quint was notified, and all agreed this sounded like loads of fun. "We needed to do some testing anyway", said Steve Quint.

The Gainsville event attracted 409 entries to compete in Pinks, along with a diverse assembly of 15 exhibition vehicles that included jet cars and Pro Mods of both nitrous and blown distinction. "We didn't get to run until 8:00pm, and we had a solid stream of fans coming up and asking when were we going to make a hit", said Landis.

In Pro Street trim (minus the zoomies) Landis clocked 6.35 @ 230mph, driving through the clutch. "The fans were used to seeing the participants make 9 to 10 second runs, so they were loving this", said Steve Quint. Ironically, Landis made his run immediately after a pair of jet cars performed their fire show, then thrusted down the 1/4 mile. "Maybe we should run behind the jets at every event", laughed Quint.

Ironically, on that same pass, Landis clocked the best 60ft time that the 2,800 pound Hemi Stratus has ever recorded, stopping the timers with a 1.02 et. "Ever since we put the Mickey Thompsons on the car we've had phenomenal 60 foots", commented Landis. Footage of this run will be included on an upcoming episode of "Pinks Uncut" from Gainsville.

More than just exhibition fun, Team Next Generation traced down some mechanical gremlins during their time in Gainsville, and solved some launch problems that the car was experiencing. "We had changed almost everything as we looked for a solution, finally realizing that the problem was merely a $75.00 two-step", said Steve Quint.

The mechanical cure happened just in time as the team prepares for its next event at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, KY - site of the NOS NMCA Nationals May 2-4. A preregistered list of 17 cars has already been established for the Bowling Green event, as NMCA is enjoying a new wave of interest and huge car counts so far this season. "It's been an incredible turn around so far in NMCA this season, and were looking forward to the Bowling Green event", commented Landis.
