That really sucks to have that kind of break.
If they repair his leg like they did mine, with a rod from hip to the knee, and screws in between, then no problem driving in a 4-6 weeks.
The worst part of driving would be pressure on the hip where the seat hits it. That is where they put in the rod.
The pain for me went away as soon as the motor fired. Adrenaline is the best pain killer in the world...
