Frank Manzo 5.411!!!

Tony did well as a driver!

True, but it didn't translate into many Round wins! If the car can't get from A to B your not going to win many rounds! As for Frank Manzo, I have no idea how he would do as a Nitro Driver/Tuner. But making an Alky FC fly doesn't mean you can make a Nitro FC run good. Just saying...

Its actually interesting how many tuner/drivers did just that as in go from alcohol to nitro succesfully. Three come to mind, Ken Veney, Dale Armstrong, and the Gwynn family. First two being tuner/drivers while the Gwynn family being a father son crew chief driver combination.

There are rumors that Al Ananbi/Alan Johnson want another crack at nitro funny car. I don't think Manzo would take anything but a top notch ride and that would probably qualify.;)

Very true, but your talkin 30 years ago! A lot has changed since then...

Alan Johnson made it look easy going from alky to fuel. IF? Manzo wanted to go fuel racing, I bet A.J. would put him heading in the right direction. I know Frank does want that 100th national event win first though.

I believe that a big leap was made in nitro performance, back in the '80s when in fact the top alky guys went nitro racing, as mentioned: Tim Richards, Veney, Armstrong, etc., and Steve Boggs knows his way around a fuel motor. But, I don't believe that leap is there anymore. As a driver, I'm sure Frank could get comfortable fairly quickly. As a tuner, same thing I think. If he ever releases the butterfly for good, he could probably make a great living as a tuner (alky or fuel). Seems like he's enjoying himself though, and I think he's late '50s, so he's got a lot of time.

There's a world of difference in the clutch between alcohol and nitro FCs. Back in the day it wasn't that hard to make the jump. Not saying he can't, just saying its a lot harder today than it used to be.

I don't know if easy is the word, they had their struggles, but his TF rookie year was 1994 and he would have won the championship in 1996. That's not too bad.
