Is anyone using the Ford 4.6, 5.0, or 5.4 four cam V-8 in the NHRA sportsman classes? I'm more interested in the altereds and dragsters. If I'm reading the rulebook correctly, that engine would only fit into Super Comp and two Gas Dragster classes. I have one of these engines and would like to put it to use.

Comp Eliminator as well... John Mihovetz has run his 4.6 in Comp several times over the years. AA/AT and BB/AT What version of the motor do you have?

Yes, the Aeromotive Fuel team uses one in their super comp car. Supercharged stock Ford motor.
The Aeromotive Mustang is a destroked 5.4 DOHC turbo car, they've run Comp a few times also. Same classes as noted above. Very cool stuff.

I have a '96 Lincoln Mark VIII with a 280HP 4.6L DOHC. It's my 'winter' car! It's a beater, so this spring it's getting tore down. I was told that the '96 to '98 Marks have the 'preferred' aluminum block that is good to 900HP. I'm not sure if that's true or not.

I'd like to run an altered with this engine. Carbed gas should be safe, but blown alky would be much more fun!

They are all aluminum in the Mark 8s from 93 to 98. I thought the better ones were the 93s or get a Steel one from the Mustang SVT Supercharged.

My daughter has an 04 Mustang Cobra Jet w/4.6 DOHC Automatic. Since this motor came in car from factory you should be able to run stock / SS eliminator. First time at drag strip w / street tires it ran in high 13's. Needs a lot of work on suspension.

It's defintely true. Mihovetz is putting out 1200 - 1300... runs 6.35 at 220 or so. They'll definitely handle a bunch. The block is a Teksid, same one I'm using in my car that came out of a 94 Mk. VIII.
Sullivan makes a single 4v intake for the DOHC. Pitch the stock rods.

This will help some
Ford modular SOHC & DOHC tech & specifications
Pitch the stock pistons while you're at it and probably the stock 6-bolt cast crank as well. ModularFords is great source for info as well.

All the Mark VIII blocks are the Italian Teksid. In mid-99 the WAP blocks came into use in the Cobras and later the Mach 1's, Marauders, and Aviators. The supercharged 4.6's utilize forged internals and an iron block.

You probably mean a Mach 1 I would imagine. An 04 Cobra would be supercharged and never came in an auto.

My buddy bought an '03 Cobra motor from a kid I work with. He over heated it a few times and thought he should buy a Ford Racing crate motor (He doesn't use is brain!). My buddy got it, minus the intake, etc, for $200! So, there is my heads and crank.

The cobra crank, rods, pistons and block are beefy. Cross bolted mains I believe, rods are forged steel by manley and a steel crank.
