Force & Coil?

Saw this on the JFR Facebook page today.

A personal message from John Force… “I never respond to social media posts. I don’t even know how to do that kind of stuff but I do love to read it. I love to read the good stuff and the bad. When I read the negative posts I always try and put myself in the other guy’s shoes and see if I can learn from a mistake.

When I look at what I have accomplished, what I have done in the past and what I want to do in the future I get a different perspective of how I got here. What does it mean? I realized my success wasn’t just me. It was me and the people around me. Austin Coil. Bernie Fedderly. John Medlen. Jimmy Prock. Mike Neff and too many crew guys to name. One thing that I missed over the years clearly were the wives that made it all possible; the wives that let those men run the roads giving up the time at home with their children. When the dad came home they were in the shop or on the phone trying to fix this machine. I am guilty of it with my own wife Laurie.

Something needs to be said and I would like to apologize to the ones that are still with me and the ones that are not. I don’t mean the crew chiefs and the crew members. I am talking about the wives and the girlfriends even the mothers that gave up their sons to live on this road that made me a champion.

Maybe I just took them all for granted because I didn’t realize what they all gave up. I want to take a minute and mention someone that gave me almost thirty years and I would like to say to Lisa Coil, I am sorry. I am sorry for some of the things that I have said and some of the things that might have hurt. I was wrong. You and Austin were my family. I was there when you guys met. You were the motivation behind Austin to drive him to the places that he took me. Just like my wife led me, you led him. I owe to thank you for the time. I just want to say I am sorry and say how much I love you guys.

I never realized and maybe I took it for granted how much Austin Coil loves you and why he worked himself to the bone to give you the good life and to make me a champion along the way. He wasn’t doing it for me he was doing it for you.

I was so excited to be talking to Austin again after all these years I made some stupid statements that Austin Coil would work for me for free. I offered him a job and he turned it down. He is one of the most brilliant minds that the sport has ever seen. He doesn’t have to work for free he could work for any of the major teams out here. Austin said to Robert that he was willing to do some consulting work and for that we would pay him. I word things wrong sometimes and I want to apologize for that to Austin and to you Lisa for using business as an excuse.

I want to tell you that I love both of you like family. I have been to lunch with Austin a few times and I would love to take you guys to dinner like old times. Your biggest supporter Lisa is my wife Laurie and she misses you just like my kids miss you.

Some day when I go down I will go down swinging. I would like the ones that got me here along the way to always be friends.” #TBT

Gee - kinda creeps me out when someone writes a personal letter about a longtime close relationship and shows it to the world John sounds like someone in a bar who has had one too many

I disagree totally. When you let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird ass in public, the only way to clean it up and set things straight is to do it in public. Kudos to John Force for being man enough to stand up and announce to the world he said something in a public forum that was wrong and not what he meant or believes..

oldest line in the book, when you go up, at some point you will come down, and on your way down you'll find out how
you treated others when you were on your way up......it applies to almost everyone of us.
i have all the respect in the world for john force, nobody gave him instructions, he figured it all out on his own. pretty remarkable.
he is eating his humble pie very well.

Always been a Force fan, and this just proves to me that deep down inside, underneath all the BS, John Force is a decent guy. All of us have to back up and realize we have mistreated others at times. Takes a bigger man to admit his mistakes.

Oh, he's certainly a decent guy. I happened on him in the "back forty" at (then) S.I.R. in Seattle in the mid nineties, taking a picture with a down-syndrome kid. He then took off his hat and put it on the boy's head. The kid beamed. There wasn't a media-member in sight, and no one besides me was watching. Way classy.

That sounds so much like Force... and many of the other great drivers/people in the drag racing community.
