Made a great late-night discovery yesterday: Joanne Shaw Taylor.

She's a pretty blonde from England who can be described as "a female Stevie Ray."

Check out these 5 videos:

YouTube - Joanne Shaw Taylor: Piece of the Sky

YouTube - Joanne Shaw Taylor: I want you to love me

YouTube - Joanne Shaw Taylor: Time has come

YouTube - Joanne Shaw Taylor: Instrumental Medley White sugar/Rude mood - first is an orginal, 2nd is a Stevie Ray song.

YouTube - Same Old Blues

Here's her myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/joanneshawtaylor

Yeah, she could be described as kind of pretty.

She could also be described as a relatively decent blues guitar player.

It could be said she adequately plays some Stevie-like blues riffs.

But a "female" Stevie Ray Vaughan???

Man, that's absolutely blasphemous! :D:D:D

There was only one, and there will never, ever, be another Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I sometimes think of what SRV's body of work would be today, and how much we're missing, if only...

Having said all that, I could enjoy seeing her play in a small intimate setting.

Blues is ALWAYS good, right?

i agree, although she moves from leads to rhythm effortlessly, same with
segwaying her lyrics to leads and vice-versa - this gal has some talent.......
critically raw, but compared to what?
maybe she's been to the crossroads? have to keep an ear out for her.
probably will buy her recent release.

for heaven's sake if eric(full of himself)clapton ever does his 'guitar festival'
again, this gal would surely outshine the likes of cheryl crow.

thanks sam.

Just so there's no misunderstanding here...

The gal's got some talent as a blues guitarist, no question, and I certainly wasn't trying to dismiss same. (her vocals are another story, however...)

I was only taking exception to the SRV comparison.

There IS no comparison, IMHO.

But I still enjoyed the vids; thanks Sam

steve,
you are correct......no comparison.

it is a shame to imagine the body of work left undiscovered
by any great artist that leaves too soon.

This may sound crazy to some of you, but I always thought Clapton was a little over-rated. He's great, but in terms of guitar solos IMO I like Satriani and Vai more.

BTW here is where you can buy Taylor's CD: RUF Records.

Interesting also, in one of the paragraphs is that one of the producers on her album is Jim Gaines, who worked with... SRV.

She's no Debbie Davies.

Cool, another person who knows her! :D I have her album she did with Double Trouble.

I stumbled across Debbie several years ago. I had just discovered Kenny Neal a few months earlier and then found an album with her, Kenny and Tab Benoit called Homesick For The Road. Great album!

And don't you ever forget it!!

Geez..Stevie had a way. (I miss him)

First..the size of his guitar strings..he could pull that off because his hands were big & strong..which in turn..gave him a sound that's hard to replicate.

Broke my heart, Man..when I heard that news. I have a pic from that last night and he looked so good..healthy..doing it proper..happy. (damn I got goosebump just thinkin bout it)

Maybe with a better quality video/audio..I would like her..but I wasn't impressed..from what I've seen. Don't get me wrong..certainly the right road.

going to keep sidetracking this thread.
thanks everyone for the SRV comments; was a giant fan back in 80's;
in fact still remember where i was on that sad morning;
but moved onto to other musicians over the years really not listening
to SRV for quite some time.......sometimes a little reminder, like this thread,
makes you stop and listen again.
here's a great 'roadie' video of 'life without you'
YouTube - SRV "Life Without You" RARE unedited footage
