ESPN screwing us again

On the plus side, between Indy Pro Mod coverage, Raceday and eliminations, we have four hours straight of racing. I can dig that.

i think it sucks.
saturday nights i'm home and ready to watch qualifying.

sunday morning the day is new and i've got things to do - one of them is
NOT sitting on couch watching drag racing.

I hear ya. I wish qualifying was on Saturday night, too. I was just trying to look on the bright side.

I am glad they moved Raceday and GSA Pro Mod coverage to the evening. I'm always at church when those both normally air and I'm still in the stone age in regards to having a DVR. HD but no DVR. Go figure.

We can always go back to the days when you had to sit through an hour of Wide World of Sports to catch 5 minutes of the race a month after it happened, or TNN when they aired 90 minutes of the whole race two week later.

I remember those days and that definitely makes you appreciate ESPN. I think they do a great job overall and I hope the NHRA works with them for many years to come.

About the only good thing about the TNN days was Steve Evens and Mac.

Maybe people are spoiled by today's coverage but compared to yesteryear it's light years better. You can actually watch a race the same day it's on, and no need to dial a 1-900 number.

i disagree - both versions (tnn then and espn now) are excellent broadcasts
of nhra drag racing.......tnn's sound with 100% nitro was excellent; tnn's
intro and exit music was better IMO than today's contrived 'go hard or go home'
rock-n-roll music; steve and mac were and still are nhra broadcast royalty,
setting the mark that is still the standard today........and the constant
in both?................mr. paul page :)

during pre-internet era, viewing a couple weeks later was really not that bad;
stay away from the 1-900 # and it would be race between tnn show and
nat. dragster as to how you found out who won.

i thought the tnn shows were great.

What are you talking about? TNN had same day coverage in the '90's and even had a few live shows. They showed first round eliminations live numerous times, then picked up the rest of eliminations later in the day - without having to dial 1-900. Add in Steve Evans NHRA Today program and I wish we had the same coverage as in the '90's.

I give ESPN thumbs up on camera work and adding qualifying to the T.V schedule, and they used to show Friday qualifying as well. The 3 hour broadcast though, way too long. 2 hours max.

Nevertheless, it's all better than nothing.
