Ellis Third on the E-town Ladder

Combining the bracket bike consistency of G2's S&S powered Buell and his own incomparable riding precision, Chip Ellis qualified third for the ProCare Rx Supernationals at Englishtown, New Jersey. Ellis put in four laps within .012 of each other on the DRAG Specialties Pro Stock Motorcycle.

"The bike's been very, very consistent," said Ellis, whose lights were also very good. "We made four runs within about a hundredth, so we're just gonna go out there and try and make four runs within a hundredth on Sunday."

"We're consistent," agreed George Smith, the G2 Motorsports president and crew chief on Ellis's bike. "Chip's cutting good lights and riding well, and we're in position to win rounds."

Consistency is one thing, and Ellis and the G2 team are glad to have it. But the runaway performances by the Suzuki of pole sitter Angel Sampey and the V-Rod of Andrew Hines have Ellis, G2, and all of the S&S Buell teams scratching their heads about the ten pound weight penalty saddled on the Buells beginning with the most recent race in Chicago.

"A lot of people have asked me about the weight adjustment," said Smith. "The NHRA did a very good job last year achieving remarkable parity in a class with such diverse platforms. They recently made a change, and now six races (including Englishtown) remain before the Countdown to the Championship in Indianapolis. I'm sure they'll get it right with enough time before then to give everybody the same chance."

G2 operations director Jackie Bryce spoke more directly. "The right thing to do would be to say they made a mistake and take the ten pounds off."

"You take out the top running Suzuki and the top running Vance &Hines bike, and the rest of the field is separated by just over 8/100ths of a second," noted Smith. "That's real good racing. On the other side of the coin, you have Tom Bradford and his Buell. Tom didn't make the cut this week for the first time since 2005. Any delay in correcting the rules could have a negative impact on racers trying to make the field, and the cut-off for the Countdown. But I have all the confidence in the world that the NHRA will make the right decision, hopefully sooner rather than later.

"We want to congratulate G2 customer Hector Arana for his first 6 second run. We're very pleased with his performance and excited that he'll be racing on Sunday. I also want to thank the G2 crew back in Americus and the S&S guys in Viola for their hard work the past couple of months. It's paying off in the performance of the DRAG Specialties Buell."

Ellis faces Steve Johnson in round 1 of eliminations at Englishtown. "I'm ahead of him in our races together for sure," Ellis said while changing valvesprings on the S&S motor.
