I'm thinking Jeg. He's impressed me for years with his finding a way to win a lot of races when he didn't have the best car, I.E. Denver, 4 round elimination R.T. average, .013. He didn't win but that's a damn fine number

I am kinda thinking it might be "Fast Jack".... he is a heck of a driver when the car works for him, and they did say "taking the car out of the equation"

When you think of it, Jeggie has already "taken the car out of the equation". He flat out can win in anything he straps hisself into.

#1 current-Jeggie
#1 past-Pat Austin....remember the doubles in T/F and TA/FC?

Who doesn't remember Topeka 91 and the single greatest event EVER...PHOENIX 92

Oh, and yeah...i'd say Jeg Jr. is number 1 for the current driver pick. Jeg CURRENTLY wins in Top Dragster (frequently) and NHRA Pro Stock. And, in recent years he has won on Pro and Full Tree's with no Delay Boxes and with Boxes...That's pretty diverse.

As far as past, you've got a great point. Austin proved (after Indy of course) that he could drive a Top Fuel Dragster pretty well (but it was short lived) and he was "THE MAN" in TAFC, but...I would give WAR a TON of credit as well.

"Large Father" was a very solid driver for many decades, but focused on Dragsters for most of his career...and was known by most as a Rail-bender. But, his performance was also a KEY in his success.

I'm wondering if there is a "Driver" out there who drove cars that wasn't always the 'fastest', who captured more wins on his Reaction Time, racing in multiple categories...heck, even multiple categories with the SAME car at the same event....???

PERHAPS ANOTHER "BIG" guy???;)

I'd agree with him 100% btw with this pick as he was my FAVORITE Driver of ALL TIME!

I think Larry Dixon Jr. said it best, If Big had raced NHRA his entire career just think of the numbers he would have put up. Thats something to ponder as well, not only his huge success in NHRA but in IHRA, AHRA and other events.

What about Jeg jr, and someone who raced at multiple levels all the way up, was competitive/successful at each level - all the way from gassers, A/, BB/, all the way up to top fuel........

Jeg.

Pat Austin was always one of my favorites out there, but when you take his cars out of the equation, where would he really stack up, because he definitely had some dominant cars throughout his career.......

Pat was the first to do the double, but I'd still rate Jeggie as better given his success behind the wheel of all the different type of cars. Would be interesting to see a comparison of the two on the tree though
