While I DO have a subscription to the New York Time (practically free - only way I can justify my "support"), IMHO, because of it's blurring of opinion and news, it can no longer be regarded as the "paper of record". You have to have a more discerning filter for the NYT than NPR.
I think my Wall Street Journal is a waaaay more reliable news source (I wish Murdoch would buy the NY Times <and restore it to it's quality reputation>)..

The NYT is the most biased piece of garbage to be tossed on your driveway. They are guilty of idealogical selective omission and are actively covering Obozo's butt when reporting so called news. Tell me. How would the NYT have reported the IRS scam which is so bad everyone is taking the 5th, Benghazi murders, Fast and Furious, NSA spying on your emails and phone calls, the so-called Russia reset, the VA crap, a billion dollars spent on a web site that doesn't work, etc., etc., if GWB was in charge instead of your messiah. With your admitted news sources you probably don't even know what I'm talking about.

NYT Headlines: Contraceptives Denied!
So Mark, why didn't the NYT tell it's readers that Hobby Lobby is still offering 20 out of 24 birth control options? There are just 4 options which they say are abortion causing like the morning after pill that the SCOTUS agreed violated their religious beliefs. Yet the NYT slurpers and their ilk are saying women are being denied health care in the SCOTUS ruling, AKA the war on women. Once again, bias by omission and 1/2 truth.
