A new track opened here in NJ and they included a scale drag strip. Anyone have any links to cars and parts or builders for these? Might be interesting for the winter and help keep in touch with friends from the real tracks.

Wow. How weird is this?

I was in The Lounge yesterday, and saw a thread about electric drag racing. It prompted me to google this very subject, and I spent about 2 hours last night surfing and Youtubing slot car drag racing!

Very cool stuff. I found a facility in Toledo I am going to go check out.

If I am not mistaken Brett Keptner has a bunch of guys down his way that have regular races.

Back about 10-15 years ago, I did some drag racing slot car stuff. I usually raced at was at Harmon's up in Geneva, Indiana until the track itself got sold. I do know there is still some slot car stuff doing on in the Dayton, Ohio area.

Out here in California we were doing slot car drags in the 60s.. Pitman dc60 motors and Jr fuel.Pitman 704s Top fuel times for the 1/4 mile was ,975s to 1.0s and the 704s were about 1.15s..we had to make our own slicks out of cut down model airplane tires.. Loads of fun..50 cents to enter the race....

A friend in New Jersey has a vintage slot car drag racing set on top of a long collection of showcases (which are full of mostly early FED and funny car models). Has bags at the end of the track to catch the cars.

The guy I mentioned above, Rocky Roxlau of Rocky's Rod Shop/Sunoco, is on Main Street in High Bridge, off of Rt 31. Definitely worth stopping by if you're ever in the area. The place is like a miniature museum of drag racing, including his alcohol KB hemi Vega that's almost done. There's another Vega funny body out in the parking lot that was supposedly Doug Thorley's. Then there's Rocky's steel bodied Fiat altered. His old Chevy gasser. His injected alky small block FED bracket car, etc.

Here he is giving a common sense answer to someone asking about opening a hot rod shop. :D

I have drag raced slot cars since about 1994, in fact my first job was the slot car track while I was in high school. :D

I have not gone much since I got big time into the r/c drag racing, but I bet I still have 20 or so cars, and TONS of parts

Any info on speed and ET's for these things? I heard something about slot cars on TLC or something recently and the speed of these cars is FANTASTIC. Like I think they could outrace a real fuel car for maybe the first 120 feet or so?

There are some very fast cars, some over 100 real mph. I have a Camaro that does .841 seconds in 66mph. Its the fastest at the track I go to but far from as fast as they can go. Paul can tell you more about it than I can but its pretty cool. Its not just pulling the trigger and watching it go. You have the equivalent of a burnout(glueing the tires) to get the car to hook if need be. Some cars are fast and work great no glue. There is bracket racing with dial ins, pro stock with pro trees. Find a track and check it out, you might get hooked<g>
