With Kenny Bernstein retiring from drag racing, does anyone have an idea of where Donnie Bender and Todd Smith will be tuning?

If Brandon does not find a deal I guess they are free agents and who knows if they would stay a pair, tho it would make sense. I do wonder, will Brandon run maybe the first race independently? I know KBR is done, but who knows if Dad and Brandon would pay for one in hopes of making some noise.

Kenny has let everyone go and started the sale process I believe. No need to run one race. Remember, they still had Copart but decided it was time to park for good. Pretty much an all or nothing deal. If Brandon drives anything at Pomona, it won't be his dad's equipment.

I see. It makes me think that copart must of not been as big a deal as I thought it was, If it was a big money deal I can't see how brandon would not be running it to a team owner who is already out there or one that wants to come back into the sport. It must be a deal where someone would have to front alot of money just to help brandon take over the copart contract.

Who knows Patrick, that's a possibility. Unless I missed it, there hasn't been much said about Copart's involvement going forward. I'm sure it wasn't small money, but I believe that at the level KB was used to racing at, losing a major associate or two would've made a huge difference in the budget. If Copart stays involved, one would think Brandon could shop that deal and get himself a ride.

When the two went to Bernstein I sad that duo wouldn't do the team any good. . How did it work for KB racing? I seriously doubt that duo will get hired by any team.

Geez Bruce, why don't you tell us how you really feel? I'm not having a dig at you, no issues with you. However, I have noticed a trend in you throwing these guys under the bus. Outside of the DSR/AJ teams, KB's car was not that far off performance wise, they just were not consistent enough when it counted. Personally I think Bender and Smith are far from ordinary. That is my opinion and you're entitled yours. I'm just curious for the quite apparent disliking you have towards the two?

I second it that because Bender and Smith have improved at times, yet they still have alot of struggles.

As long as AJ in tuning a top fuel car, everyone else is running for 2nd place. It dont matter who is your crew chief.

just my opinions. . .I was and will be a BIG KB fan. he was the king of funnies, and in his last years of top fuel, could cut a light light with the best. And I just never thought much of the Bender and Smith duo. Alot of people on this board voiced their opinions that Bender and Smith were going to take K.B. to the top. . and I never thought that would happen. . .just my thoughts.

Even though I know some of you will refuse to listen to me. I can't stress to you all enough just how difficult it is to race one of these cars. DSR and AJR a lot of times make it look real easy and make others look real bad. I think if some of you actually sat in the frying pan for a while you would understand what I'm talking about and wouldn't make such silly comments.

Amen. I wouldn't want to be the person responsible for making the calls, no way!

Thank You Tony..!!!!!

But I've read on this website that all you need to do is just read the tune-up out of a book.

Amen Tony !!

Absolutely Tony. But i agree that if Copart wanted to keep going Brandon could shop the deal around and land some place with it. I think there's something else that's putting KING Entertainment out of business or Kenny would keep the program going. What racer ever quit in the middle of a two year deal just spend more time doing other things? I guess Kenny might be the first unless there's something else behind the scenes.

Hahaha :D I believe that is how Mike Greene gets the 'job done' Some people just don't understand Mike.

And well said Tony.

Thats what I said about it since day 1. I congratulate Kenny on his amazing career and retirement, but everyone found it offending when I said the same. My conclusion is that the Copart deal could of been kept going, but it must require additional sponsorship to really make ends meet and with the lack of it, I can see why Kenny left now, but I agree he's the first I ever heard of, well expect for Del walking away from driving. I support Kenny, I support Del.

Tony I agree with you and maybe they ran the car in a non magic way, when you think about it, they were the highest pointed independent team so maybe we are being to abrasive with the summary. Tony's point does make me think exactly what it is that have the top independent teams all stuck around a 3.81-3.85 and all the AJR/DSR empires stuck at 3.73-3.79. I just realized this, Brandon was the only independent top fuel team to run a 70 with a 78. I wonder are all the crew cheifs that gifted at DSR/AJR or is there like a master collaborative notes? That situation could mean 1 guy tunes but they all tune artificially.
