DONALD G. HAMPSON
AGE: 68 BRIDGEWATER

Donald G. Hampson, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 18, at the Presbyterian Church at Pluckemin, 311 Routes 202/206 in the Pluckemin section of Bedminster Township. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow at the church. Arrangements are by the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster. Interment will be private.

Born in Plainfield, Mr. Hampson grew up in North Plainfield and attended local schools. He was an honors graduate of Rutgers University, and also attended Boston University. Mr. Hampson and his family lived in Piscataway before moving to Bridgewater 34 years ago. Most of Mr. Hampson's working years were spent in sales and marketing for the plastics industry. He was manager for Akzo Nobel and travelled extensively for business, retiring from their New Brunswick site in 2002 after 36 years with the company and its predecessors. Mr. Hampson was a member of the Palisades Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers, holding several local and national positions. He served as chairman of its Vinyl Division. Mr. Hampson was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Pluckemin.

Active in Boy Scouting as both a youth and as an adult, he served on the Troop Committee for Boy Scout Troop # 154 in Pluckemin, acting as chairman in 1986. Mr. Hampson was also a Somerset County 4-H leader. An automotive enthusiast since high school, he enjoyed drag racing in the 1960s, and later moved to restoring vintage cars. During retirement Mr. Hampson took pleasure in travel, especially taking cruises. He enjoyed music and golf throughout his life.

Mr. Hampson was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Barbara Hampson. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Judith Hampson (nee Hampton) of Bridgewater; his daughter, Kimberly Hampson of San Diego, CA; his son, Craig Hampson and his wife Helen, of Deerfield, IL; and his granddaughters, Hannah and Abigail. Mr. Hampson is also survived by his sister, Joan Lehner of Stirling. and a host of other relatives.

Donald "Don" Hampson was a kind and loving man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 6275, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 or to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
